Follow up : Lebanon ; independent army

I have never seen such independent army anymore except in image.asp Lebanon , seriously the army either follows the President or the

Cabinet , it did not happen in place in the world except in Lebanon , an exceptional country for sure .

The army in Lebanon may be the last neutral institution in the country , not with this party nor with this party and this something it should be credited for. and it is unusual in Lebanon.

I know officially Lebanon got no Defense minister but still officially they follow the cabinet , but they do not actually and this is the best thing because if they followed the orders of this cabinet , Lebanon instead of walking, stopping and avoiding the civil war route will be jumping madly to it.

The Lebanese did not listen to the orders of the cabinet to arrest or to fight the Hezbollah or its allies elements , instead it went for months after the 14th of March parties centers in Lebanon and taking their weapons they were hiding ,  these weapons would have done a lot of harm now.

Now the army  found a solution that would please all parties , it will investigate the telecommunications network of Hezbollah and it will keep the airport officer in his place till the investigation ends , in return it seems that Hezbollah liked the offer and decided to evacuate its supporters and allies locations to the army especially in Beirut , already the city is somehow quiet.

Michel Soliman must be credited for leading the army in this way , listening to the cabinet would be disastrous , the 14th of March parities wanted it to fight Hezbollah. The army and Hezbollah relations are very strong as far as I see and somehow this is why some people do not want Soliman to become a President , there is a myth saying that Hezbollah does not Soliman , on the contrary it wants Soliman and a national legal cabinet. Here I would to mention the suggestion of Michel Own ,the former chief of Stuff of the Lebanese army and the famous opposition leader to merge Hezbollah fighters and arms in they army , of course the suggestion was rejected as some believed it would a Shiite army !!??

The Lebanese should count on their army I think more than parties and if the Arab countries really want to help Lebanon then they must support its army with training , equipment and experience , not to be agents for these Arab countries but to protect Lebanon from its inner and external enemies and God knows how many they are

  4. Dear Zeinobia,

Thanks for a great and very interesting post. This said, you commend the Lebanese Army for having dispersed and disarmed the M14 militias or private security guards. I agree with you. But why the Army didn't also disarm Amal and Hezbollah militias (as the Lebanese agreements as well as UN resolutions have asked for)? I think the Lebanese Army is certainly a goodwill power in the way that they tried to avoid civil war, yes. But a neutral element, I am not so sure? Hizbollah and Amal are a serious threat for Lebanon and its stability as long as they keep weapons.

  5. @Dear Alphast ,may I ask one question , did Hezbollah or Amal open their fire on the Lebanese people like what happened during the civil war ,did they?? They opened their fires against the militias of Al Hariri and Jumbaltt , you know it is strange that all people blame Hezbollah for its arms and forget that other militias did not get rid from their weapons
Hezbollah was clear that its weapons will not be used internally and guess what they did not use it this time , it was their allies weapons
If you remove Hezbollah weapons then Lebanon will be in a threat , a real threat from Israel and this is what Israel wants , we must stop fooling ourselves
