Pirates of The Red Sea Hit Again

Somali pirates have hijacked an Egyptian vessel called "MV Suez" today. The pirates attacked the vessel near the Gulf of Eden. The crew of the MV Suez includes 23 sailors from Egypt , Pakistan , Sri Lanka and India. The vessel is not officially Egyptian as it was registered in Panama and has got a Panama flag on it.

I hope our officials will be more active because it is just matter of days and Ramadan will start , many families will have a sad Ramadan with the absence of their fathers, husbands and sons.

Speaking of families and Ramadan , does anyone else still remember the Badr-1 vessel disappearance saga !!?? We are now in August 2010 and we have known the fate of this ship and its crew yet.

  3. MV Suez is definitely Egyptian. :) The whole business with flags of convenience is actually very interesting. Ship owners like to register with countries whose inspection requirements etc. are easily satisfied, and whose fees are low, and so various tiny countries have turned ship registry into a big business. The hilarious thing is that some of the registry countries are completely landlocked! Haha well everyone needs to make a buck I guess.

Man, I hate pirates. It's unbelieveable we have to put up with them in 2010. And the kid gloves with which they are handled makes me sick. Arrest them? Pffft. Blow them out of the water. Most of the world's navies, including the US Navy, have been pathetic. The Russians and Chinese at least fight back. Good for them.

How lame is this excuse: Pirate leader Sugule Ali said their motive was "to stop illegal fishing and dumping in our waters... We don't consider ourselves sea bandits. We consider sea bandits [to be] those who illegally fish and dump in our seas and dump waste in our seas and carry weapons in our seas." Also, the independent Somalian news-site WardherNews found that 70 percent "strongly supported the piracy as a form of national defence of the country's territorial waters".

They can go to hell. Every ship in every Somalian pirate port should be sunk. It would take two or three days of smart bombing, and problem solved. But somebody with cojones has to step up to the plate and do it, because the Western democracies are afraid of being called racist. Egypt? Sudan?

  4. It is alleged that some financially stressed ship owners have conspired with pirates to have their ship ceased in order to collect insurance money.
