RIP Ahmed Ramzy “1930-2012”

Ramzy in Ibn Hamido
Today Egypt has lost its beloved original heartthrob of 1950s and 1960s Cinema star Ahmed Ramzy.
The 82 years old actor passed away after he fell down on his head in the bathroom of his house in North Coast where he used to live for a long time. The half Egyptian-half Scottish actor wanted to be buried at the North Coast too.
I feel so sad , there is no girl in Egypt that has not fallen in love of Ramzy on screen in those black and white films from 1950s and 1960s. He was our original heartthrob with open shirts and smiley face.
My favorite Ramzy’s films are Zizi’s family “I wish that I had a neighbor like him” , Ibn Hamido “with his open shirt through all the family” , Days and nights and Chitchat on the Nile.
Almost all people loved him in romantic comedies and light romantic films. He was also our favoirte bad boy that broke the hearts of virgins in films. Oh God we got generations who had crush on that man.
Still He was not the best drama actor
His open Shirt was
a trademark
After huge success in 1950s and 1960s , Ramzy’s stardom faded away and he starred in cult films produced in Beirut. Even his cult terrible films were iconic in their cheesiness if I may say!!
For almost two decades he quit acting yet returned back to appear as guest star in his close friends films and TV series like Faten Hamma’s “Moon Face” and Omar El Sherif’s “Hanan and Hanin”. Already he was El Sherif’s best friend since high school.
Now to celebrate the memory of that star , here is couple of clips you should watch and share.
First a tribute to Ramzy , the neighbor's son

First time to hear Nancy Agram's song , it is fun and light.
Second his famous scene in a drag in the epic Chitchat on the Nile

By the way Ramzy did not like President Nasser and believed that Egypt's best era was in time of Sadat. Late Aida El Shaer , the diva of folklore songs sing the famous iconic song “El Titsht a’ali”
Third his most famous interview in 1966 when he was being criticized by famous Laila Rostom for his always-open-shirt and how he wore a blue pendant to protect him from envy !! “It was given by his wife then.”

It was recorded in our pop TV culture how Rostom commented on his answer sarcastically and said her famous two words “Too Cute”. After 40 years the woman is still being asked about this interview despite she was like Barbara Walters in her time in Egypt !!
And last here is my favorite film "Ibn Hamido" , this film is an epic comedy where we got legendary stars like Ismail Yassin , Zainat Sedaky, the amazing Hend Rostom, Abdel Fatah El Kisry , Tawfik El Dikkin and of course our boy late Ramzy. I already learned its script by heart.

By the way this film's production budge was LE 15,000 and that beach was in Ain El Sokhna.

  1. wow how times change. This would be considered almost risque today in Egypt I think. (the last Video) with the girl putting her money into her bodice. :) Gun toting mama with the fishnet stockings. She looked a bit like Rita Hayworth who married the Agha Khan back in the 50s and they had one daughter, Princess Yasmin. Rita's photo was emblazonned on many of the WW2 aircraft back then in the 1940s. And Ramzy reminds me of Tyrone Power.

    Enjoyed the videos very much.

  2. Here is a photo of the Princess Yasmin Khan, daughter of the late Rita Hayworth and the Prince Khan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasmin_Aga_Khan

Here is Rita Hayworth, who I thought looked a bit like that actress too:

  3. @Deb in Az., The dancer with the fishnet stocking is Nelly Mazloum. She was an Egyptian dancer of Italian-Greek origin. She was a legend in her style of dancing in the 40's, 50's. and early 60's.

  4. Today 28 September 2016 ../commemorates the 4th anniversary of the departure of superstar actor GREAT Mr.AHMED RAMZY,who passed away This Day in 2012..unfortunate for us the mortals ,and a GIANT gain..for what we believe and call>> ETERNITY?? even though in his latter years,he kept himself away from limelight..even in his hay days he kept himself to himself,a MAN whom Acting and stardom came ..without warning about 1955 with his 1st silver screen appearance in the movie AYAMINA AL HELWA meaning OUR HAPPY DAYS,next to another GREAT Superstar late Mr. OMAR SHARIF and Mr. Sharif s 1st wife late Mrs.Faten HAMAMA (Abdelwahab),mother of their only male offspring Dr.Tareq SHARIF, who appeared with Mr.OMAR in the Classical movie DOCTOR ZHIVAGO 1967,without forgetting superstar Crooner late Mr. ABDEL HALIM HAFEZ??/Late Mr. RAMZY whom appeared over 90 movies & one foreign movie shot in Rome/ITALY...SON of SPARTACUS 1962,and few modest plays for the Egyptian T.V /and the Radio episodes...This GREAT Playboy was destined to become a Doctor ,but fate twisted it all when he was playing the BILLIARD with his good mate Mr.Sharif... and when he was asked to visit the Studio and have some pilot appearances and shots, his looks and figures were unique for the Arab screen , with similarities of an Far Eastern eyes and face, and ATHLETIC body fit for a boxer as the late Mohammed ALI (CLAY)...which he most cleverly used in most of his movies as a good Fighter..sometimes as the Good guy other times a villain..also ED and late Mrs.SOUAD HOSSNI 1957, with all his great achievements MR.RAMZY Unfortunately never met a Film Director that could bring out his HIDDEN talents... Mr,Ramzy gave the best he s been asked for, that s Undeniable , but still much was expected, that waited to be given and shown..and discovered by a devoted great Director?? Still , HE did what an Actor of his caliber could give.. that can add to his legacy ..PRIDE!! Even thou he always was given the role of a( Loser Playboy ),meaning a guy that tries to seduce other guys women, and fails, but in real life he was a ROMEO whom made Arab girls./women.. constantly SIGH !! A female cousin of mine was lucky to meet him on his way to ROME in ,1962 on board of cruise Boat called OSONIA maybe Osonea??, With her husband for their honeymoon break ,whom had a camera and took their photo ,on the Ships deck,Mr.Ramzy, as always , with his hairy chest..exposed??
that made him famous in most of his movie scenes in the 1955-1965 s
Handsome/Cute/Charming/Gentleman/Womaniser.. who in his real life married 3 times, had children and was a good father & and sweet grandfather to the day he sadly left us all,i mean all whom admired Him and his WORKS..and kind personality he was reputed by..we all everywhere ...MISS HIM..TREMENDOUSLY ..may HIS sweet memory stay ALIVE FOREVER!! and GOD grant endurance and patience to all his close relations /Friends &Admirers everywhere!! with my deepest sorrow & sincere prayers Today on HIS 4th Anniversary of departure from us,MEN OR WOMEN we all LOVED AHMED RAMZY, ..From London/G.B/Is.Barsoumian

  5. slight addition to my previous Comment:Mr.AHMED RAMZY s best Classical movie was ..in my humble opinion SAWT MEEN AL MADI or BLAST FROM THE PAST,with co actress IMAN and The Great theatre /cinema s Lady AMINA RIZK in 1957? where he played a Doctor, something once he wanted to study, and Be? but silver screen snatched him ..like a blizzard!! He played many other movies as a medical person, like GHARAM IMRA-A or LOVE AFFAIRS OF A LADY?? with Great/retired actress Mrs. SAMIRA AHMED and late Mrs.SOUAD HOSSNI 1960, so what he missed in becoming a Dr. like his Father late Dr. Mahmoud BEYOUMI was, whom married a Scottish Lady, who became the late mother of Mr.RAMZY,+his brother in London!! RAMZY was his first name ,but changed it to Ahmed and used RAMZY as a surname ,and he turned that combination into infamous & also UNFORGETTABLE name for 3 decades & more, and to many decades to come, and one of the great pillars of the EGYPT-ARAB Cinemas History!!..from I.B./London

  6. AHMED RAMZY FOREVER/ The more WE talk about this IMMORTAL & always Arab screen s eternally Bright SUPER-STAR..the less we reveal about his greatness, and donate HIM his deserved..Rights!! Mr.RAMZY was clever enough to make himself appear in most of the SONGS sang in some of the movies he was the leading Hero or even just ..an Extra?? ..He knew how to play his cards right, where some film directors failed, because with some songs sang by Great crooners such as Late Abdel Halim Hafez/Nagat/Late Sabah..& few others,he was in the frame,so every time we hear Halim HAFEZ songs such as TEKHOUNOO/..YOM MILADAK/..YA ALBI YA KHALI..also Madam NAGAT singing El Leila Dee/..Ban Aleya Houbboh ..and many, many other songs, AHMED RAMZY s sweet-unique grins or smiling face, pops up , & automatically comes to one s mind,if he/she seen the movie on the screens.. , a smart move, i assume Mr. Ramzy came up with ;or even if the film s scenario needed it,in any case a Genius move..for someone who never sang himself but remembered with every such songs...every time heard on the Radio or L.Ps/Cd s though his GREAT ,acting in Films ,some included NO SONGS at all, but made him remembered as the CUTE NAUGHTY, GOOD HEARTED GUY of the Arab Silver Screen??...i myself myself, call it THE GOLDEN SCREEN, thanks to HIM & His appearances ON IT!!... indeed **RAMZY FOREVER**////Regards from Is.B./London
