Nakba at 78: Watch These Videos

Today marks Nakba Day, and although the Nakba is not just history but an ongoing reality — one that now seems to be expanding far beyond the land of Palestine — it remains important to remember the past and set the record straight.

For 78 years, one narrative was largely embraced and amplified across much of the Western world. That is why it is important — and our duty — to highlight the long-neglected Palestinian narrative.

This year, I urge you to watch these short clips.

The first is a must-watch short film by Palestinian journalist Mohamed Shehada, whom you should follow on Twitter/X.

There is also a brief reminder of what the Nakba was.

And finally — though the Nakba itself is far from over — an interview with a direct survivor of the Nakba, something I never imagined I would see posted on the account of the Mayor of New York, thanks to Zohran Mamdani.

On the occasion of the Nakba anniversary, and amid the many overlooked stories of Palestinian history, please try to watch the film Palestine 36. It is available on Netflix Mideast.

Directed by Annemarie Jacir — whose work was Palestine’s submission to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film — the film explores the 1936-1939 Palestinian revolt against British occupation as well as the growing expansion of Zionist colonisation in Palestine.

The Nakba is not over. Remember that.

Please watch and share. It is the least we can do.
