Helen Thomas : More Than A Statement

Helen Thomas is not just a journalist or White House Correspondent , she is an icon in press in the United States as the oldest White House correspondent , the first woman to enter men's arena , the first American Arab woman to be accurate.
I did not know about the Arab roots of Thomas except from very short time , also I did not know about her opinions regarding the Middle East issues except very recently but these only increased my admiration for this old lady who is a bright wonderful example of women journalists everywhere.
You must know that Thomas is hated by GOPs , one of the morons in the Fox News called her the Evil Queen of the East in reference to the Wizard of Oz.

Helen Thomas asks Bush on why he went to Iraq
You must know that she asked Obama a question that he has answered yet.
Helen Thomas' question that Obama has not answered yet
You must know that Thomas has asked Gibbs about the exact date of when the American troops will return back from Afghanistan and their lack of condemnation to what happened to the flotilla
Helen Thomas mocks Gibbs over the Gaza flotilla
Thomas is not the first one that speaks about Palestine and the rights of Israel in it , there are Jew historians and also Israelis who believe that the current Israelis have no rights in Palestine with historical evidence so I do not know why there is a huge attack on Helen Thomas , may be because she is Helen Thomas there is so much attack on her.
Helen Thomas' comment
She issued an apology and has retired after decades of working admirably because she expressed her views freely according to the American constitution. Again there are Americans, Jews and even Israelis who believe that Israelis should get the hell out of Palestine :(

  1. Thomas was born in Winchester, Kentucky.[3] Her parents, Mary (née Rowady) and George Thomas, were Lebanese immigrants from Tripoli, Lebanon;[4][5][6] her father's surname had originally been "Antonious".[

  2. Hi Zeinobia,

Political commentator and pundit Bill O'Reilly called Helen Thomas "The Wicked Witch of the East." That was a reference to the character of that name in The Wizard of Oz (1939). In that movie only her feet were seen, because Dorothy's house landed on her and killed her. But she must have looked like her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West.

Yeah, I kinda would have guessed for an Arab journalist to be advocating ethnically cleansing the Jews from Israel would score a few points with you :D

Too bad she got fired. You'll have to admire her retirement now.

Zeinobia: "Again there are Americans, Jews and even Israelis who believe that Israelis should get the hell out of Palestine :("

Not really, no. That's an Arab/Muslim thing, almost exclusively. But I'm not surprised you think so. Reality seems to matter little to you.

  4. I have watched White House news conferences now and then for years, and while I find Thomas' comments to be vile, I wonder if they are a symptom of mental deterioration more that anything else.

  5. What really cracks me up about all of this is that "she resigned". SHE WAS FIRED! Why don't they just say that? She had the balls to say what she thought, and they fired her. I also don't think she should have apologized, either, unless she really didn't mean what she said. I hope she DID mean it, and I wish she had not caved in and said she was sorry. She was talking to a rabbi when she said it as well, which I think, is all the better. GOOD FOR HER!

  6. @expat , yes I know her parents are Arabs

    @Jason, O'Reilly is rude

@Programmer Craig , she did not refer to any ethnic cleansing from near or far so stop putting words in her mouth , she was just stating facts
All the presidents of Israel and prime ministers were born in Europe for God Sake !!

    David Ben Gurion:
“If I were an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country … We come from Israel, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been anti-semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?”

@anonymous , I think for a woman in her late 80s , she is more than fine

@Shelly , she was dropped out by Thomas only but she retired from Hearst , there is huge difference

  7. She got fired adn attacked because she rminded audiences that Israel is a colonizer state, and not some indigenous Jewish Palestinian creation.

That's just silly, and nobody in the US agrees with your interpretation.

Zeinobia: "All the presidents of Israel and prime ministers were born in Europe for God Sake !!"

And that's just a bold-faced lie. Ehud Olmert was born in Binyamina in 1945. Ariel Sharon was born in Kfar Malal in 1928. I'll leave off with politicians with that, and go on to state that over half of Israel's Jewish population came from Arab countries when they were driven out. When you claim that they all come from Europe, you're LYING, Zeinobia. You can plead ignorance if you want, but I bet you can use Google just as well as I can.

  9. @Craig: are you actually claiming that you know what all Americans think?!!! In fact most of my American friends do not support Israel and complain about how the US support is wrong and even hurting Americans.
Well. one thing that gives me hope that this vile entity of Israel will go down eventually is reading comments like yours Craig.

The Middle East is meant for the ppl of the Middle East and those immigrants they allowed or accepted. Just like your own country has the right to decide who comes in, Palestinians also shouldve have had that right. And the land belongs to those Palestinians (regardless of their religious affiliation) only not an open for the take place like you and Zionists like to claim it was. The facts that Helene were referring to are logical and also shared by many that illegal Jewish immigrants were pushed to MENA from Europe that could not tolerate them. So, if you are an outsider either learn how to live with those around you and have the courage to admit the wrongs of your Zionist parents/grandparent (an example here would be South Africa) or take your stuff and leave. I wish ppl like you learn from the history of the region that those who push themselves into our region in such a manner either end up dissolving with the rest or leave, remember the Greeks, Romans, Crusades, French, Italian, Brits and the same will apply to the Zionists and to the US.
