First of all, belated Happy Easter according to the Western traditions and Happy Easter according to Eastern traditions.
Second of all, Happy Sham El-Nassim and Sinai Liberation Day too.
It is time of Egypt's Spring Flowers show |
It is time for our annual post celebrating Egypt’s oldest continuing exhibition aka Spring Flowers show.
This year, Egypt’s Spring Flowers show 2022 was held as usual in its location at Giza’s Al-Orman botanical garden but earlier than its usual date.
It was inaugurated by the Giza Governor and Minister of Agriculture on 26 February this year, unlike in previous years.
Ministry of Agriculture's main partition at the show |
The date of the Spring Flowers Show is usually 21 or 20 March but this year it was decided to be re-inaugurated earlier because of Ramadan.
It was to be held for 45 days, which also is also longer than its usual duration.
The show is still a hot attraction for visitors thank God |
Usually, it is for one month from Mid March or 21 March till before Sham El-Nassim/Orthodox Easter.

Now amazingly it will continue till the end of April aka the end of Ramadan this year.
A partition of a flower nursery under that huge tree at Al-Omran Park |
It seems that it was extended for a reason you will know later.
As an extra activity to encourage more people to go even at night, there is a Ramadan tent for citizens in the Al-Orman garden.
The renovation inauguration plaque at the entrance of the park |
There is also an exhibit “Ahalalina” that provides food supplies in Ramadan for cheaper prices as I have read.
Needless to say, a Ramadan Tent and food supplies exhibit make me feel sad for the old Al-Orman garden that needs really care for its history and that fact it is one of the few real botanical gardens in Giza and the Great Cairo region.

This is the 89th edition of the Spring Flowers show.
Checking the photos taken at the Flowers show |
According to the official numbers, the first Spring Flowers Show was held in 1933 whereas Wikipedia says that Al-Orman hosted the show since 1920 despite Pre-1952 press archives showing the Flowers show was held in the Agricultural Museum land and Cairo Fair which is currently located beside the Cairo Opera House in Zamalek.

My search in a previous post about the history of Show says that it goes to 1910 in Alexandria, so yes its real history is longer than the official one.

This year, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that more than 240 exhibitors from landscape companies, flowers nurseries, agricultural supplies and tools companies are participating in the show.
The usual exhibitors like My Garden landscape, El-Morog, and the German Egyptian company were there with their distinguished partitions along with others.

The famous flowers arc |
Still, others were innovative enough, like this partition that had faith that the Egyptian National Football would be qualified for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar !!
Many Egyptians had high hopes about the World Cup |
I have not gone so far in the show this year, unfortunately.
I wanted to go again but I am too lazy, especially in Ramadan.
A partition inside the show |
The Ministry of Agriculture had several partitions offering their products from plants to most importantly food like olives, honey and dates, which are staple food items in Ramadan.
Another Ministry of agriculture's partition in the show |
The Ministry had several partitions according to its different departments for instance the famous Researches Center which sells some of its products.
The agricultural researches center's partition in the show |
There is another partition following the Ministry’s Central directorate selling all sorts of ornamental and shadow plants.

I did not buy anything this year because I had not the car with me and I was holding the camera but I saw people buying all sorts of items.
According to people I know who went to the show this year and spoke with the vendors at the partition in the past weeks, the sales were less than the previous years but it was not due to the recent surge in prices.

Photos show how some flowers did not look flourished like in previous years.
I hope that flowers flourished in those days.
The flowers suffered during the cold wave |
The fact that the show was inaugurated earlier than its usual date resulted in that.
Flowers looked in terrible form due to that cold wave that hit the country in late February till March.
You can see the damage of flowers clearly |
That cold wave ended in April and that’s why the Ministry of Agriculture decided to extend it.
It is not the first time the fair it is extended thought.
Visitors inside a partition at the Spring Flowers 2022 show |
Despite the cold weather and its impact on flowers, the show was really crowded as expected by all sorts of people from all segments, ages and classes including foreigners were there when I went.

The entry price for Egyptians is LE 10 while the entry ticket for cars, it is LE 25 where you can park your car inside the park.
I believe the prices are good.
Visitors inside the show |
When I went, there was no place for cars to park inside the garden itself.

Girls from Cairo University students came to take selfies as usual.
Smile to the camera and strikee a pose |
The students and women, in general, took photos of themselves and their families, especially the younger ones.
Whether with children or not, smile to the camera |
The duck face is still a popular fashion in Selfies as it seems in Egypt.
Inside Egypt's Spring Flowers show |
I do not doubt that Egyptians go to this show because they miss green spaces and flowers in their daily life.
It is no secret that there are fewer green areas in the Great Cairo region and there is an ongoing merciless trees massacre in our streets despite we are going to host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Inside Egypt's Spring Flowers show |
This year in Egypt’s Spring Flowers Show 2022, there are discounts reaching 40% according to news reports but I have not seen those sale labels just the price labels in some cases.
Inside Egypt's Spring Flowers show |
The prices start from LE 5 up to LE 10,000.
I have not seen the LE 10,000 plants but I saw for instance this cacti collection sold for over LE 2,000 as they are imported cacti.

Cacti are popular and are still among the stars of the show thanks to Egypt’s desert nature.

People prefer them because they come in every shape, size and price.

The house herbs are still there and they are the visitors’ favourite.

This year I saw a grapefruit tree sold.

I remember its price was not that expensive.
There was another fruit tree but I can’t remember its name.

I think it is from the citrus family.
And you got the flowers too.
Small flowers pots for sale |
From all shapes and pots.

A side mark, despite the restrictions on wearing a surgical mask, nobody did wear it except me.

We got flowers in baskets too.
