Adobe is known that its applications are the best in the market when it comes to media production. Whether visual or web, it is well-established fact.
It is one of the reasons why it has an expensive price tag for its apps. It is also one of the reasons why its apps are among the most pirated software around the globe.
Now with the depreciation of the Egyptian pound, it is hard for many in Egypt to continue using the original Adobe apps above them Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Adobe premiere.
Made on Adobe Express FYI |
You may think that USD 9.9 a month or USD 120 a year for the Adobe Photography bundle "Photoshop and Lightroom" cheapest license in the Middle East and North Africa region “Arab region” is a simple thing, but this means LE 295 and LE 3,544 “based on the US 1 = LE 29.54”
This is besides the commission Egyptian banks take for Credit Cards US dollar transactions from inside Egypt.
This is hugely expensive for many Egyptians that use the app in photography and graphic design, especially with the increasing living costs in the country. Freelancers from graphic designers depend on that app for their living.
The same thing applies to Adobe Premier and Adobe After Effects.
You cannot give me the same prices you give to the users in the Gulf for instance. Our purchasing power is not the same.
Some will argue, that Photoshop, for instance, is the third most pirated app in Egypt after Microsoft Windows and Office and so no need to change the prices specifically for Egyptians I will tell you that there is a need if you want to counter piracy.
Recently many Egyptians including yours truly use the original photoshop using an official and original license and let me tell you it is worth making noise about it and seeking a special Egypt price.
I am selfish and I will say that I wrote this post hoping that it may reach some top-level Adobe official who will bring up the matter because I am thinking about the annual renewal of the popular app which I use for photography.
I do not know how the Egyptian pound will lose its value by the mid of the year "nor the end of this month actually"
Please do not tell me to use open-source and other alternatives because I tried, and they were not that good.
So I hope this post finds its way to Adobe Middle East and Adobe in the United States to rethink their pricing policies.
In fact, I hope other big software companies rethink their pricing policies in Egypt now and my eyes are on Microsoft.
Please share the word.
You need to stop sending money to US mega corp and being constrained by them.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest to use Inkscape, Gimp, and so on... as we do in our french web agency... With theses Libre tools, our imagination the limit. Best regards from Oleron Island... Egypt is a great country and Egyptians are very fine people.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time you tried Free/Open Source alternatives? They have come along way in the past few years. Applications like GIMP, Inkscape and LibreOffice have improved so much in terms of features and usability. Give them a second chance!
