It Happened: Syria is Al-Assad-Free—Bashar Flees Damascus

I have been glued in front of Al-Jazeera and social media in the past 48 hours to see the unbelievable accelerating end of Al-Assad Baath regime

Al-Assad dynasty rule ended in Damascus, Syria after 54 years. I can’t believe that I am blogging about it at last.

Damascus without Bashar Al-Assad
Damascus without Bashar Al-Assad
The headline of Syria TV

I can’t believe it, I still can’t.

Al-Assad has escaped along with his family to Dubai or God knows where.

I am just realizing that Al-Assad has become the last Arab Spring despot to lose his chair, I read that amazing news that I could not believe that it was happening.

We all have to be worried about the future of Syria but for now, we must realize and understand that the morning came and there is no Al-Assad ruling Syria.

Here is a video that hit a cord.

A man in the middle of Damascus screams “Bashar, the dog has escaped, the coward has escaped ya world” while chanting “Allah Akbar” {God is the greatest}.

The video hit a chord, indeed. It is like the video of the Tunisian man screaming, “Ben Ali has escaped.”

That video also in Damascus shows the mosques celebrating with Eid Takbirs

The mother cries and her toddler son's voice in the background hits me hard

Again, I am still in disbelief.

Update: It is 4 PM Cairo local time, 5 PM Damascus local time

What we know for sure is that Al-Assad left earlier Sunday morning in a deal with the Russians. He did not speak with his cabinet or the Prime Minister. At the same time till this time , we have not heard a single word from him. We have not seen a single photo for him either.

The Russians say that he resigned. We have not seen any single document either.

There is also a deal between the militant Syrian oppositions led by ex-Al Qaeda current Tahrir El-Sham leader Ahmed El-Sha'ar aka Abu Mohamed El-Golani and the Al-Assad last cabinet to manage the state institutions till they hand over the power peacefully.

Now the bad news , Israel re-occupied the buffer zone in Mount Harmon between it and between Syria declaring that 1974 truce agreement between the two is over !!

Too many things are happening at a pace we can’t keep up with.

Now for history, here is the moment , Syrian Ex-Prime Minister Mohammed El-Jalali announcing that Bashar Al-Assad had fled the country.

Here is the moment, the Syrian rebels announced they toppled the regime from the Syrian State TV

  1. A most unexpected development. A byproduct of Israel’s war against Hizbollah who were eloping Assad keep the Syrians down. He has probably headed to Moscow, a good place for war criminals. I am guessing Syria won’t go the way of Libya because it’s a different more complex society with an ancient history but it’s hard to say, wherever you have strongly tribal societies you have weak fractious states.
