11 February 2025: When King Abdullah II met Donald Trump "Updated"

It is 11 February 2025, the 14th anniversary of Hosni Mubarak's ousting. It came at a very critical time, and it is not about the challenging economic conditions.

It came at a time when the U.S. President himself tried to force Egypt to accept the unacceptable and he is insisting on it.

It came on the same day when US President Donald Trump said in an informal press meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan that the US won't buy Gaza, it will simply "have it". For the record, journalists were told there would not be a press but then Abdullah II found himself inside a mini-Trumpian presser.

In the same meeting, Egyptians saw Trump saying that he believed Palestinians would have a parcel of land in Egypt and Jordan while Abdullah II did not challenge him, sitting there silent with an extremely red face.

From his side, the Jordanian King said that his country would host 2,000 Palestinian children suffering from cancer or other serious diseases. “Nothing new under the sun because for a whole year, Jordan used to do this”

"We have to look at the best interests of the United States, of the people in the region, especially to my people of Jordan," Abdullah said adding that the Egyptians were working on a plan that to be discussed with the Saudis and other Arab countries.

The fact that he did not make it clear that he rejected the notion that the United States would take over Gaza made it like he supported Trump. Piers Morgan already took it as a yes spreading it on Twitter in no time.

But his face and body said it all.

The face of his crown prince Hussein II said it all.

This is one of the worst meetings the Jordanian Monarch had in D.C. He appeared nervously speaking.

He had not left the White House when the strong reactions whether from the Egyptian public or leadership found their way online.

Egyptian social media from left to right cursed King Abdullah II calling him a traitor just like his father.

Historically since the time of King Farouk, the backstabbing of Cairo by the Hashemites especially in the time of King Hussein I whether in the time of Nasser or Sadat made many Egyptians also from left to right mistrust the Jordanian Royal Family.

Egyptians can’t forget that King Hussein warned the Israelis about the date of the Yom Kippur War on 6 October 1973. Young Egyptians shared videos of Nasser and Sadat slamming King Hussein.

Unofficially shortly following the statements of Trump and Abdullah, informed Egyptian anonymous sources spoke to Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya reasserted Egypt’s rejection of the displacement plan and declared the postponement of El-Sisi’s visit to D.C until further notice.

The sources added that Egypt had two plans to reconstruct Gaza without displacement.

Egypt has also formally requested clarifications from Washington regarding Trump’s recent comments about potential sanctions which he claimed on Monday.

Officially, Egypt affirmed its intention to present a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in a manner that ensures the Palestinian people remain on their ancestral land preserving their rights, the Foreign Ministry said in a late Tuesday night statement.

Hours after the shit hit the fan for real and the news websites were speaking about his silence on Trump’s delusional yet dangerous plans, Abdullah spoke in a Twitter thread declaring: Jordan’s complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians.

His Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi was on a tour of Arab and Foreign News TV channels with one single message that Jordan rejects Trump's plan of displacement.

On 11 February 2011, the Egyptian Armed Forces represented in the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces made its decision to oust Mubarak and took the side of the Egyptian people.

Regardless of what happened later on that day, history would say that the commanders of the Egyptian Army decided to take the Egyptian people’s side avoiding actually what I believe is truly the fate of Syria.

By the way, I still remember how Trump his old Twitter account slammed the Tahrir protesters.

It is something expected from him honestly speaking.

I will quote again what I said in my annual 25 January post.

“For regional political reasons, I do not believe Egyptians will rise up now, especially with the Israeli army in Gaza or its attention fixed on Gaza. “Not to mention,” some sectors of Israeli society still cast their eyes on Sinai—whether as an alternative homeland for Palestinians or as part of a grand vision of Greater Israel.

However, the one scenario that could compel Egyptians to take to the streets is the loss of Sinai again—heavens forbid. This remains the true red line for the Egyptian president and military. It is a generational lesson and fear rooted in the memory of the devastating moment of June 5, 1967.”

Benjamin Netanyahu is betting on the Western as well as Israeli military's shortsighted view that he can change the map of the Middle East, he can along with Trump but the map may not be in his favour or in Israel’s or the United States’.

  1. If aljazera wants to convince us there's famine in Gaza they might want to stop using on the ground reporters, who all have double chins.
