I was part of an American unit sent to Eqypt post 1973 war. We were to evaluate certain facilities for joint operation execises to perform improvements needed for American aircraft to operate safely from the short Soviet style fields.
What saw truly amazed me! I saw Israeli tanks stacked in front of Ismali like melted bars of carved soap. I also saw several fields of abandoned Israeli tanks that had run out of fuel. I saw dummy Sam positions that the IAF had been tricked into attacking while Zsu-23s shot them down on their attack passes. I was not aware the Isreal had taken these losses at least in such huge amount.
I was fortunate to meet Gen. Kabal on a flight back to Cairo and he was a weath of information. He stated that the some of the Soviet advisors inadequate military knowlege had not been total corrected before the 73 War began. The main error was the Demarcation line between the 2nd and 3rd Armis still remained in the lake - " an incredible oversite", as he put it. Kabal blames this error for the Israeli opertunity to exploit the weekness at the Chinese Farm area and force a crossing where only a few non-Egyption volunteer units were stationed.
The General was confident that iif the city could hold out and he could contain the Israelis in his holding action, that the Cario reserves would have retaken the canals bridgehead and bagged the Israelis already in supply trouble.
Thought this might be of interest to you. Also, one othe best books on the subject October 1973 by Gen. Patton and Aker.
@anonymous thanks so much for the valuable information , really they are very valuable and it is good to hear from another side by the way those non-volunteer units were actually one unit Kuwaiti :( one was not enough for sure even if we were sre from the place by the way my favorite part is that dummy Sam positions , the tricks in that war were surprising for sure and unexpected thanks for the book thanks again sir :)

ألم يقل حسني مبارك منذ سنوات أنه ضد حبس الصحفيين و مع قانون يمنع حبسهم ؟!
