Sotheby's Alert

Ok People there is an Alert for all those rich people out there who like to collect some old interesting stuff ,The Famous Sotheby's is going to sell very interesting , real interesting old Egyptian Stuff treasures on the 15th of this month November in London , in their showroom in the New Bond Street starting at 10:30 GMT

Already I do not know why someone would sell these things

First the auction or the Catalogue is the Travel,Natural History ,Maps and Atlases , the lots are exactly 208 items, of course not all of them are Egyptian stuff ,they will be in an exhibition before the start of the auction for 4 days starting from today

Second those interesting old Egyptian treasures that are going to sold in that auctions are the following :

1- Lot 142 : A collections of a very rare and important documents and photographers that were owned by the Scorpio explorer Ahmed Hassanein documents Pasha Hassanein himself , including the original manuscript and photos of his book "The lost Oases" , very rare photo album including the photos of King Farouk I and listen to this foreign ministry a very rare important private document "The Western Frontiers of Egypt, the Italian Egyptian Treaty, 6th of December 1925"

I do not know how such document is left like this

Anyhow the prices are between 25,000 -35000 GBP

I expect that some wealthy Gulf personality buys it because of the increasing popularity of Hassanein Pasha especially after the King Farouk TV Series or may be some Libyan buys it for Gaddafi especially for that important historical document concerning our borders

2- Lot 117 : A collections of issues of the famous Egyptian Satirical magazine "Abu Naddara" , which was one of Egypt's early satirical abu-naddara political comic magazines from th 19th century , the magazine was found by the famous "James Sanua" or in Arabic "Ya'qub Rufa'il Sanu'" better known as "Abu Naddara" or the man with the Glasses. He founded the the magazine in year 1877 ,and despite the facts that few could read and buy the magazine and also the obstacles of printing it , it was huge success that made the authorities back then stop its publishing as it was liberal and revolutionary the thing that made the Khedive back then "Ismail" order to send "Abu Naddara" to exile in Paris , where the man continued to publish his magazine in both Arabic and French.

It was the first Arabic magazine to contain comics

 Abu Naddara

As you see the lot contains a collection of these wonderful old issues that were printed and published in Paris in 1878 and a personal letter by "Abu -Naddara" to one of his friend

The prices are between 10-000 -15,000 GBP

and this is unfair

And Now to the most important thing in the auctions after 4 days , the most important lot and collections

3- Lot 116 : Muhammed Abdou orginial autographed Manuscripts and books in Arabic including three unrecorded manuscripts which are :

a-The original Arabic translation of the first three books of Plato's Republic by the handwriting of Sheikh Muhammed Abdou himself , do you read what I just have written , his own handwriting , also an essay about Islam and proverbs

Muhammed Abdou

b-Manuscripts in Arabic about various stuff , you name about identity, the family, society, sexuality, humanity, history, war, traditions, industry, education, labor and trade

c-Manuscript table in Arabic of chronological/comparative historical events relating to Palestine and the holy land from 4000 B.C. to 780 B.C.

The printed work ,well we got treasures here a real treasures 12 books and essays including those two wonderful titles :

Are n't these lost treasure that are going to be sold for the highest bidder ??? Do not they deserve to be in the Bibliotheca Alexandria !!???

The prince will start between 12,000 -18,000 GBP ,of course I expect that they will be sold in a price higher than the previous lots

oh boy how can anyone sell those things ??

By the way if you search in Sotheby's and Christie's you will find that technically our history is being sold for the highest bidder whoever he or she is , seriously our history from the pharaohs to the middle age to the modern Egypt !!!

  1. Any Egyptian should be outraged and probably is when made aware of it.

What are the auction houses standards on relics such as these? Who are the current owners?

  2. @Sameh , you will be shocked if you know that this auction houses sell even much more older relics ,and here I mean things like from the ancient Egyptian era !!
The main standard is these stuff are private collections owned by people not by countries , if countries want them they have two way to prove their legal ownership of the stuff or to bid in it

Sotheby's is one of the oldest auction house in UK since the 18th century along with the Christie auction house

  3. I've heard an Egyptian National trying to re-obtain national artifacts from Britian, France and any other country. I can't remember his name. Sadly, the empassioned speaches of many of us trail into rhetoric and it's difficult to find "friends" to assist us in our efforts. Reminds me of when Arafat came out of his shelled compound after being beseiged, in front of the world he had a chance to grab world opinion.....he instead spewed rhetoric...

    I found this link helpfull:

I'm doing research on several documentaries which focus on Justice/Social Justice. With no shortage of subject matter especially at home in Egypt, I'm trying to focus on Canada as well, as Egyptians have many friends here. Awarness is not as large an issue as we percieve it to be. People are much more aware than we give them credit for. Sure, it's easy to find ignorance. I'm more concerned with what the masses already know, they're hoping for tools to use in action to affect change. How to affect change is our challenge in my humble opinion.

This issue is important, even if we don't have the resources to show it in an open display.

So many Egyptians need basic services and humane treatment....

  4. @Sameh , first good luck at your research, Social justice in Egypt is just like the holy grail in the Christian world , since pre- 1952 we are searching for it in vain

second about the official you mentioned ,well he is no other than Zahi Hawas ,the problem is that those countries even refuse to lend us the relics to show them in our muesum ,we got two problems , some of them were stolen from Egypt and some were taken in 19th century under the nose of the Egyptian government then thanks to the foreign privilages , it is so sad
