A Typical Arabic Move

I read this news on the same day I knew that the American people have elected their first African American president for the next 4 year and I felt that in the Arab world we still have a lot of time to become like the Americans and have the freedom to choose whoever we want to from the Persian Gulf to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Algerian Parliament wants to change the current articles of the presidential terms ,according to the constitution the President in Algeria stays only for two successive terms ,they want to change so that President Abd El-Aziz Bouteflika can stay for another third term !!

Bouteflika’s second term will finish in 2009 and so he wants to stay in the rule regardless of the fact that he should have left after his hospitalisation from couple years ago and the rumours that he was treated from Cancer.

This is the difference between Us and the U.S ,from the reasons why McCain did not win was his old age and his medical conditions , the Americans won’t risk having an old president who can die and leave them with inexperienced vie president like Palin.

But our Presidents want to rule us till the grave without any Vice Presidents !!

I respect Bouteflika very much for his history in the Algerian Independence war but enough is enough , why he wants to continue especially  with health and the fact that his country with all the threats surrounding it from terrorism and conflicts with neighbours needs a younger democratic president !!

But what can I say !!??This is an Arab country in the end.

I wish that the Algerian people refuse this amendment and fight it as much as they can

  1. Well... These are Arab presidents... People are just afraid for new presidents and do not know how it will be to have a new one.. They think, the condition we have might be better than the condition that the new president will bring... They are also afraid of rioting for example or better said, demonstrating in fear of the current president..

Like I always say, if you have problems, then you are part of it. Solve it and you won't have any problems, and if you can but you won;t change it... Then bare the problem.. Like the people in Egypt for example and the rest of the Dictatorships...
