They Kill Cats in Gezira Club !!

Today I have just found that many stray cats may have been mercilessly killed in Gezira sports club “GSC” in Cairo by the orders of the administration because they are annoying the members !!
Tweep Simbakis has posted a terrible photo showing dead cats in a bucket in the famous club. Other members confirmed that they did this because the straw cats were annoying the members and increasing rapidly !!

Updated#1 : The photo I posted turned not to be from the GSC but from another place still many GSC members confirm the news that stray cats were poisoned in the club.

Updated#2 : According Simbakis The Egyptian Society for mercy to animal "ESMA" interfered yesterday some cats , here is a photo for a little kitten after being rescued.

It is not the first time that this happens in the A Class oldest Club in Cairo that takes pride of its pets cemetery “mainly for dogs”. According to GSC members it happened before and tens of cats have been poisoned by the orders of administration before Sham El Nassim last year !!

Update #3 : According to Nadia Montasser the GSC did that cats massacre before in last October 2011.Here is a photo a cat being saved then.

This is just sick as well inhuman as it can be if it is true. Animal cruelty is not something unknown in our Egyptian society ; despite our so-called conservative society that brought Islamists to the parliament it ignores that Islam is against animal cruelty. Prophet Mohamed “PBUH” once spoke in a famous quote on how a woman was doomed to hell because she locked in a cat and made it starve with no water or food and how God forgave for a prostitute all her sins because she gave a stray thirsty dog water in her shoe so it could drink.
The image is terrible and yes I am speaking about cats being killed just like I am speaking about everything I consider to be wrong in this country.

  1. Gandhi said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”. If you look around you, at how donkeys, dogs and cats are treated you will know that our moral progress is really low. I don't understand how can people be so cruel to helpless animals.

  2. Cats at clubs can be very aggressive. They jump on the table and onto your lap if you are eating.
I don't like how they did it, but decreasing the cat population is not a bad thing. It takes time to make Egyptians understand having a cat spade (neutered), but may have definitely lowered the number of cats at the club.

    1. your opinion is respected.. many advanced solutions have been suggested however they have been turned down.. mainly the spaying and neutering. this is the best way to reduce the population, they cannot be completely eliminated as the club is open to the streets of cairo where there are more cats outside that will come in even if they kill the ones inside unless they decide to turn the club to indoors only !

    2. solutions of spaying and neutering have been offered and refused by the board

  3. To have cats neutered would be an excellent solution!! but difficult to carry out due to the large number of cats in Egypt ... but definitely it is better then killing the cats, that is just an easy crime!!!

  4. That's really upsetting to me :( My daughter adores the cats in the Gezira club and loves looking at them. I'm so sad this happens :(

  5. This is not the same GSC I knew in 1950's and early 60's when members and administrative staff were quality, cultured and humane people.
Whoever permitted this ugly action would be criminally charged in the west.

  7. As a matter of fact, the above photo doesn't relate to Gezira Club ... Here is the link ... http://cathaters.blogspot.com/2009/03/barrel-dead-cats.html

Still, this doesn't deny that there have been cats massacres at the Club, but it's quite noticeable that the article, unfortunately, is mainly based on what this pic in particular is telling the audience ...?? Thus, regardless the facts of cats killings, this article is considered fabricated.

    1. Actually despite the photo which the tweep I mentioned was not from GSC yet many GSC members confirmed that stray cats were being poisoned in the club , the story is not fabricated , I do not need to fabricate the news , this is not a tabloid blog

    2. As I've mentioned above, yes there have been continuous awful cats massacres in the Club, the thing that all of us are standing agaist. Still, one does't need to use fabricated proofs to make his/her point, while lots of other related ones are available. This results losing his/her credibility.

Meanwhile, trusting your your good intention & Supporting your Cause.

    3. @Zeinobia, If your blog were a British tabloid you would have kept the picture and used this caption: "File photo: Some dead cats in a barrel, similar to the cats poisoned at the Gezira Sports Club."

  8. Why are Egyptians so dumb?

If there are TOO many cats then that means there are also TOO many RATS! What do you think they feed on?

You kill the cats and throw your trash on the streets then your BIGGEST problem will then be the rats!!! Then you have REAL PROBLEMS!

Egypt has to be the least Islamic country in the world.
So many mosques and very few Muslims!
Your cruelty to animals is beyond measure.

    1. Then the best solution would be is to collect as many cats as possible from the club and place them near garbage spots and rats. This will solve many problems :
      1) reduce the number of cats at the club without getting rid of all of them (for taking care of resident rats)!!
      2) use the collected cats to serve society :):)

      GOOD LUCK PEOPLE

  11. There is a wonderful group in Egypt called "Touch of Life Organization." They help the dogs and cats of that country and work to get them adopted. They are on Facebook. Look them up, "Like" them, share them and support them. They are doing a much needed service. Thanks!
