On the 4th of May 2008 President Mubarak celebrated his birthday in the Oraba Presidential Palace to become one of the oldest rulers in the world and also in the history of Egypt including the ancient one "yes the Ancient one" .
Not only he is oldest but also he scored a record in staying as a President for 27 years , his competitors are other dictators in the third world who are falling down either by disease in case of Castro or time in case of Robert Mugabe or death as the rest of the leaders of the Arab world and as we are expecting in Egypt.
There are generations in Egypt who opened their eyes and saw no other no president except like me , well other generations two or three or even four including the king !!??
Very heavy 27 years they were , I will not say that they were all bad or they were all great but mostly especially in the last years they were like big burden not only on the Egyptian people but the future citizens of this nation , you know what is like ??
It is like the Mount Atlas myth about Atlas who is holding the sky on his shoulder "I once read it in 1951 Original Sindbad magazine" ,the Egyptians are the same but instead of the sky they are holding pyramids of 27 continuous rule over their shoulders and they are giving it unwillingly to their children.
I will not blame the revolution nor Anwar El-Sadaat because , Anwar El-Sadaat Era was different than Nasser's and surely Mubarak is different from them , Mubarak is staying in rule more than Sadaat and Nasser , in fact more than all the rulers of Egypt in the 20th Century , Mubarak had better circumstances to make Egypt a great nation. Mubarak was right from 27 years ago in UK when he answered some reporter's question about whether he were a Nasserite or Sadat Follower saying firmly in military way
"My NAME IS HOSNI MUBARAK"
He was true ,he is not like Nasser nor Sadat , he is worst than them , he took the worse from Nasser era "totalitarianism " and Sadat era "Financial corruption", if you notice Egypt achieved something in both men's era regardless of wars , may be things were not that great in Egypt during Nasser rule but at least we were respected outside and we were the real leaders of the Arab world , now our position is taken by countries like Qatar which became a mediator between the Yemenis and the Palestinians "with my all respect to Qatar and its people "
Strangely at the same time he became a president ,Mahathir Mohammed became the prime Minister of Malaysia and in 20 years Malaysia became one of them Asian Tigers , despite it does not have half the qualifications Egypt has. Still it is unfair to compare between Dr. Mohamed and Mubarak. I am sick from hearing Mubarak did something great by not involving us in Wars , well he did this because there was a Peace treaty and the international scene helped him to do so ,but on the other hand what did he do during this Peace time ??
The country became more in debts than in times of war , in fact more than anytime !!
I am sick of hearing about his pseudo achievements in the last 27 years !! Up till this moment there are Egyptian villages with out basic infra structure , even clean water they do not have it !! What he had done , do not give me silly justifications he had all the time and money to do
in his time Sinai returned back but what he did to develop Sinai ?? It became a big resort and for the first time huge parts of Sinai are now owned by foreigners , not actual development even for the locals areas , instead the locals now there hate him than more than leader and they feel that they are alienated.
I do not have time or space to speak about education , about housing , about urban development , about agriculture , about social justice.. etc
The achievements of Mubarak are a lot of corruption every where , social injustice , the middle class is decreasing more and more , an economy controlled by the west more and more , pollution every where , increased crime rate where as security is focusing on protecting regime. Our position in the Arab is taken by countries we did not hear their voices from 10 years ago !!
It is not about being a military or a civilian , with my all respect Mohammed Ali was a foreign solider who could not read or write yet he did not only build a great nation but he was so near from forming the first Arabic Empire in the modern history. Till now we are technically living on the basis he put for this state. It was a vision and willingness to make some from this country. May be Mohamed Ali was searching for personal glory and to form a Royal family , well still he wanted his name to be great one to be associated with a great country as a great leader , he wanted his children to inherit the most powerful country in the East that could stand against the West , not a weak country that the west is nearly controlling it , regardless of what happened next. Mubarak also wants to inherit this country to his son , but unfortunately he won't inherit to him a powerful Empire but very weak country whose people can't stand him nor his son. I will tell you very nice short tale about Mohamed Ali when he reached his 80s fighting disease and sadness for his terrible loss whether his empire or his beloved son "Ibrahim" , he gathered all his men and also the clerics and told them that he could not rule anymore , he needed their help and insight to rule the country because he could not do the job , I read this once in Al Masry Al Youm , for your information Mohamed Ali was some how a dictator in his own way but again he had a vision on the other hand Mubarak refuses to leave even for his son , yes he could leave it to his son now no but he is insisting to be the president till the last breath , he is making sure to surround himself with an entourage that pleases him regardless of how bad and corrupted they are , strangely this man got rid from the good ministers in the cabinets that served in his time despite they were really promising and wanted to do something to this country ; the names are many like : Ahmed Rushdie , Amr Moses, Hassaballah El-Kafarawy, Ahmed El-Gowali, Ahmed El-Lathy
Of course this shows how short sighted he is because these men could have accomplished something may be the people will remember it that it took in Mubarak's era !!??
Mubarak is not the first ruler to reach 80s or stay too long in the chair Egypt believe it or not so many people from his kind , the old dictators since the Pharaohs and guess what those Pharaohs despite their long periods are always forgotten in the history
Strangely the 4th of May was the birthday of Khairat El-Shater of the MB !!??
