Just Stay Away From The Station’s Building

I think I have read somewhere that the Cairo governorate made a contest for improving the impossible to improve Ramses Square , yes it seems that there was an international contest to the disastrous square and  the winner is a projected presented by Egyptian “BECT” , French “AREP” and Dutch “Blok Kats van Veen architects” .
This is the project they represented. “ The presentation is in English, check it below”
Ramses Square , the next Cairo paradise !!
So Ramses II will return back to the square !!?? Did not Zahi Hawas say that it is going to stay where it is forever after in the heart of that new Egyptian museum they are currently  building !!??
Transferring the statue
I do not know if we are ever going to see Ramses square like that or even closer to this but all what I care for is the historical building of Cairo station aka Bab El-Hadeed station , I do not want this modernity touch it , its beauty is in its old style which was saved last year by luck.
Old Cairo train station
Speaking about the Bab El-Hadeed station , I know that Alaa Fahmy is trying to break that curse following the ministers of transportation and is working on improving our railway stations “ let’s believe that the man is doing something” , then why we do not ask the help of our genius Hani Azer ; seriously I do not think that he would mind helping in solving our railways tragedy.

  2. @Anon: according to the winning project, which I pray to see the day it actually materialises, Ramsis is to be brought back. This means we wasted how many millions moving the poor thing around Cairo and back again!

  3. Thank you for that interesting video, Z. The part at 1:00 where cars and pedestrians compete is scary. I wouldn't want to cross that street.

Reminds me of a local story of municipal waste: The Seattle Kingdome was blown up on March 26, 2000, only five years after paying 67 million dollars for roof repairs. King County still owes the banks 82.8 million for Kingdome expenses including financing of the original construction in the mid 1970s. They expect to finish paying off the loan in 2016.
