The Opium of the Egyptian people

Once upon time there was a famous saying said by Carl Marx

Religion is the opium of the masses

This saying showed how Religion plays an important role , from Lenin's point of view it is deceivable as the Opium ,transferring people from their miserable status to another fake temporarily status where they can forget their problems for few minutes , this is what Lenin thought .

For me I believe the Opium of the Egyptian people is not Religion despite how Important Religion in the Egyptian society , The Real Opium of the Egyptian People is Football.

I think many will agree with me that Football is just like drug ,opium in Egypt , it makes them happy so much like a drug ,it has the same drug effect to transfer people from misery status to the temporarily happy status.

All the classes in Egypt adore Football ,from the cream of the society to the very Poor class.

I swear the best time to commit a crime in Egypt will be during a football Match for the National time , all streets are empty , all people are around TV screens ,even the TV screens in the shops' windows

Just look how people suddenly forgot the whole world and are paying attention to Ghana 2008 , they are attacking as if it is a holy war to win the cup . They are searching for fake victory. I remember very well how the people acted when we won in 2006 the cup and how they went to the Streets to celebrate the fake victory , I saw it by my own eyes and I would never forget it before , I would never forget it how the people acted holding flags screaming madly "Egypt , Egypt"

Football became the opium of the Egyptian people thanks to the Nasserist era ,when the regime back then searched for a general drug to the people , to make them busy in something else then politics . It was among other social drugs like Music and Cult films.

After the six days war ,the Radio Israel Arabic service was airing a message to the Egyptian people " Oh you poor Egyptians Nasser feeds you beans on breakfast , football match in lunch and Om Kalthoum concert in dinner "

The message does not need any explanation.

The current regime despite the difference of ideologies is keeping the Nasser regime legacy and using football to distract the people.

I still remember our Titanic

I still remember and I will never forget that I was from the generation who witness the Egyptian titanic incident and how the regime thought that the souls of one thousands were nothing compared to the safety of the disrespected infamous NDP member Mamdouh Ismail ,who is hiding currently in UK using the non extradition agreement privilege ,hiding from his crime. To All UK respectable Citizens there is a criminal living among you , this person killed by his greed 1000 innocent person , all their guilt that they were using his ferry to return back home to their beloved ones , the beloved ones who lost their fathers,mothers,grand parents and children. You will not believe how many times the trial of the furry was adjourned. You will not believe the corruption and conspiracies the press is speaking about .

 

For God Sake Babies were drowned in the cold red sea .

I will never forget ,I will still remember and I will make you remember with me

And to refresh your memory I will leave you with this recording , yes I will play annually till Ismail is arrested.

I do not want to appear like the one who wishes for something bad to happen to Ismail , but reality does not hurt , most of the people who were killed in the ferry were from upper Egypt , Upper Egypt the home of Vendetta , I will not be surprised if one you will find this man is killed by someone from Upper Egypt , in fact you should know the one who killed him may have a father or sister or brother or a mother on the ferry and seeking revenge.

Please Read the Fataha on the souls of 1000 Egyptians , if you are not Muslim but a believer then Mention them in your prayer or in your thought just for one second

Egyptian X-File : Nice places to invest your money in

There are many question marks about Naguib Sawiris and his fortune, For me I do not suspect about the origin of his wealth like many others do , simply because it is well known that the Sawiris family is already rich one from very long time even before the revolution in Upper Egypt. It was a natural thing to find his family among the Forbes richest Arabs in the region for another year. I do not even bother myself with the rumours which is saying Sawiris family is using the Church and the Christians' money in their investment ,the same way like El-Ryan did except he is not a crook like El-Ryan.

I am just wondering about how this man invests his money or to be specific where he invests his money.  Of course I am speaking about Naguib not about the rest of his family. The locations or the countries he chose to invest his money in are considered dangerous locations for any business to invest in. Capital money is coward , stable  countries are much attractive place with opportunities ,you do not find investors going to countries with war or countries with unstable governments , for God Sake there are reports done by huge institutes regarding the best places to invest your money in .

Still Naguib is using another theory , just look to the countries he invested and is investing his money in :

• Syria for some time then he left after big financial corruption scandal.
• He tried to enter the Iranian Market.
• Iraq ,and he sold "Iraqana" to Kuwaiti Zein, already it was a terrible investment with my all respect every couple of months Egyptian Engineers were kidnapped for ransoms,they tried to give huge incentives for Engineers in Egypt to go to Iraq but they were refusing.
• Pakistan ,he is still there .
• Algeria ,he is still there .
• Some countries in Africa.

And the big news of the week

Naguib Sawiris and his company Orascom Telecom have won the Mobile Phone operating license in ... North Korea

Yes North Korea of Pyongyang and Kim Jong Il !! North Korea ,the communist country with centralized economy and huge famine. The heart of the axis of evil .

Did not I tell you that the man invest his money in strange place ??

He goes where other do not dare to think about , he got a point , but North Korea !!???

Already I wonder to whom he will sell the Mobile phones to , to Jong LL and his party men , the UN for years is speaking about a terrible human situation there

Naguib wants to his corporation to be global , fine he got a nice strategy for global expansion still we have to wonder about his choices in the countries he chooses .

Polls : The best cafe in Cairo

I asked my dear visitors in Cairo a question in a Poll and I hoped that I got an answer and I did

The question was :

What is the best cafe in Cairo ??

With 5 Choices ; 4 of them Cafes in Cairo : Cilantro,Costa, Beano's and Cinnabon ; the 5 choice was left to you to add any other Cafe I forgot

Here are the results :

• Cilantro received about 29% of the votes , it is not a surprise ,after it is every where and it became the favourite meeting place for many , their menu includes always new stuff ,Sushi was included lately and their Wi-Fi service made it the favourite place for geeks with Laptops
• Cinnabon came in the second place for about 23% of the votes , this is a surprise , but not for a long time I visit Cinnabon this week in Zamalak and I found out that they added new stuff from Wi-Fi , Salads and Sandwiches of course their Cinnabon rolls are the best in the winter and I forget to mention that they got something the other cafes do not have "Carvel" outlets in their branches , just wait till Summer and you will know how this can be important.
• Costa came in the third place for about 21% of the votes , Costa is not bad but with Wi-Fi , nice sandwiches and drinks some like it even more than Cilantro
• Beano's came in the fifth place after "Other" for13%  of the votes , Well I like Beano's for its pan cake and the fact they got these books you flitch and read while you are there , not to mention the Wi-Fi connection there

"Other" received 14 % of the votes , the answers were completely different from each other , here are some of the other suggestions or answers I received :

Closing the borders ,Closing the gap

Egypt is regaining control again on the borders , the Egyptian Police is closing gaps , the Gazans are returning to the sector and the Egyptian regime currently is handling negotiations with Hamas . The Egyptian regime did some measures ,cruel one to force the Gazans to return back home. Most of if not all the Charity aids from food and medical supplies were stopped from reaching Rafah in Ismailia , they are not let to pass Cairo except very few.

Egypt is negotiating currently with Hamas , despite what Fatah wants , Fatah is living in a fantasy world ,whether Fatah or the world like or dislike Hamas , the Islamist Group is controlling the sector and they have to deal with it sooner or later for the sake of the people of Gaza , 1.5 million in the small sector.

The EU is wise it welcomed the suggestion that the crossing will be under Egypt and Hamas control along with the EU supervision represented in their delegate they would send.

Currently Omar Soliman is leading the negotiations with the Palestinian Hamas , they can communicate with him better than Abu El-Gait , already it turned out that there is a new Egyptian party engaged in the negotiations in fact the Egyptian regime is using its influence on Hamas in order to reach for a deal.

The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt , oh yes the same legally Forbidden Muslim Brotherhood the regime can't stomach , what can you say !!??Last week a VIP from Hamas went directly after meeting with Omar Soliman to the MB headquarter in order to meet with the General Guide of the group .

It is not a surprise to me because Hamas is the daughter of MB , late Sheikh Ahmed Yassin "May Allah bless his soul" was originally a MB member and he was once arrested and tortured by the Nasser's security forces before 1967 when they used to hunt down all those who were related to MB "I do not care what the MBs say now about that Nasser days were better than now , for God Sake Nasser days we could not speak in our homes !!"

Anyhow Hamas is staying despite what Fatah wants and it is wise thing to do to negotiate with them ,dealing with the reality.

Updates: Hamas and the Egyptian authorities did not reach to deal as it was announced today , but Hamas said that they made a progress with the Egyptian parties , from another side there was another gap opened in the borders today !! Lol

It is an honour for him

Everybody noticed the absence of President Mubarak and the current Cabinet members from ministers in the funeral and memorial service held for Late Prime Minister and the God father of the Egyptian industry "Aziz Sadky".

Not only President Mubarak or the current Prime minister Nazif or the ministers of the current Nazif had not attend the funeral but also the icons of Mubarak decades from journalists and NDPians did not show up.

Yes it was an honourable funeral , a military one ,yes President  Mubarak sent some delegate , a General to attend the funeral but it would be much nicer to honour the man and to walk in his funeral at least he is a Muslim and he should do so.

Anyhow it is better that no one from the Mubarak NDPian era showed up in the funeral or memorial service . The funeral and the memorial service were the perfect respect to a man who gave his life to this nation. In fact in his funeral all Egypt was united , the communists with the MBs , the Socialists with the capitalists , even ex-ministers ,respectable ministers like Hasaballah El-Kafrawy were there.

In the Memorial service at Omar Makarm , two current ministers showed up , but I can't recall their names as usual yet they were not the most important faces that came to pay respect to the man : Former first lady Jihan El-Sadat and her son Jamal came to pay respect . Khaled Abd El-Nasser came to pay respect. Former advisor to President Mubarak El-Baz came to pay respect. Famous Writer and journalist "Heikel" came to pay respect .

It is an honour for that great man that Mubarak or son and Co. did not walk in his funeral ,seriously a great honour

The Winograd Report : You should respect this people

You should respect the Israelis for their democracy and how they care that much for their country and how they try to learn from their mistakes so they won't repeat it for the sake of their people and their country and for the sake of what they believe in. They do not favour this or that because of his or her position or his or her family or what he or she had done in their past from glorious services marked in the Nation's book.

Today the final Winograd Report was published in Israel today and with it the future of Ehud Olmert is being determined whether to stay or to leave , the right wing does not want him anymore but the left wing wants him.

First what is the Wingordad Report ??

It is a report that is representing the findings of the governmental commission led by Eliyahu Wingordad to investigate the results of the Second Lebanon War 2006 , to know why Israel did not achieve any of its goals .

This is the final report.

Here is the main findings in English from Ha'atrz newspaper. Also there is interesting report in the same newspaper regarding the report you should read too.

Wingordad's report in my point of view proves that Hezbollah won the war . Look to what Wingordad said in today Press Conference :

"Israel embarked on a prolonged war that it initiated, which ended without a clear Israeli victory from a military standpoint .A paramilitary organization withstood the strongest army in the Middle East for weeks.Hezbollah rocket fire on the Israeli home front continued throughout the war, and the IDF failed to provide an effective response "

Yes Lebanon Paid a heavy price too but if you look in the past wars with Israel , we always pay heavier price than the Israelis , not to mention that Lebanon not the South of Lebanon was alone in the world , blockaded , with no air shield except very week air defense "compared to the Israelis'" . On the other hand Israel has the state of Art army and defense in the world and could not through out 60 days to even stop rockets from raining over its cities.

From Wingordad report's the deadly mistake was in the ground operation:

The manner in which the ground operation was conducted raises the most difficult of questions

This report is blaming the leadership for the losses by finding "grave faults and failings in the decision-making process and the preparatory work both in the political and military levels and the interaction between them "

The decision making in the political level is  under huge attacks , Winograd reached that the IDF entered the war especially the ground operation without clear.

Believe me the IDF and the Israelis will take this report and fix all their mistakes in order to win a second round , the Israelis always learn and plan based on their past wars and its mistakes.

Olmert refuses to resign as he depends on the Left wing support represented in Barack and his party , the card he is playing with is the Negotiations with the Palestinians "as if it were negotiations with any useful results ??!!"

Days will tell if Olmert will stay in his office or not ,already I do not think that he will stay too long .

After 1967 six days war , an Egyptian official committee was formed to investigate the reasons of the defeat , till this day after 30 years , we do not know yet the findings of the committee , in fact till now we do not know yet how many Egyptians whether from the civilians or from the military were killed in that war !!???
