2010 has not started yet and it seems that Egypt is getting ready for the Presidential elections in 2011 !!!
May be most people feel that we will have early elections in 2010 in a way or another and this is why in the past few days , in fact in the past few months we found us in front of some candidates even thought the door of candidacy has not been opened yet !!
We got three candidates who officially announced that they will run for the office : Lawyer Mamdouh Ramzy , Ayman Nour and President Mubarak”and son !!”
We got one candidate who has not said his final word about his candidacy : Dr. El-Baradei.
With my all respect to Mamdouh Ramzy , I believe he is just bluffing , already I do not know if he fulfills the 76 article conditions to run for the office , not to mention with my all due respect I believe if he runs for the post even Christians will not vote for him because let’s face it what his real experience to become the President of EGYPT !!??
Ramzy reminds me with Adali Abdir when he announced that he would run against Mubarak from Switzerland, this was a media stunt with my all due respect to create another round of sectarian debates on whether the Christians can rule Egypt or not !!?? With my all due respect the issue is not about Christians and Muslims but about how someone else than the Mubaraks will rule !!
I respect Ayman Nour so much but his jail time and his family life are his deadly weakness points that are standing against his candidacy , he should stick in his role as opposition leader. Ayman Nour by the way did not say again that he would run for the presidential office again but I do not think that he will quit the race
Now to the new hope of Egyptians : Dr.El-Baradei. it is not the first time his name is mentioned as a possible candidate for the presidential race 2011
Dr. El-Baradei was asked directly about the elections in 2011 and whether if he was interested or not in the race and that if he would do it on behalf of the New Wafd party “despite he is not a member there but his father was in the old Wafd and he believes in its old principles”. Dr. El-Baradei gave an answer more ambiguous , more open than his answers on the Iranian nuke file ; he did not confirm or deny giving the impression that he is thinking about it. Now I am scared on his life because of this media hype about him as if he said “ Yes , I will do it , I will represent the new Wafd in the presidential elections. “
I just want to clarify one thing , I think we all agree that the New Wafd , especially with its current administration has become a real shadow puppet party for the regime. It is enough that the current head of the new Wafd is the brother of our current minister of agriculture who honorably is destroying our Egyptian cotton industry !!
Still I am scared on El-Baradei’s life because many people say yes and wish that he will say yes from different political parties , those people know very well that he will not be the president except over the dead bodies of God knows who but may be those people are expecting that he would come and with him some international elections supervision committee !!??
I do not doubt that a man like El-Baradei is thinking about it, the man said that he wants to serve Egypt in any possible way and he could not stand how Egypt is currently suffering from humiliation in every aspect of our lives but a man in his intelligence and in his experience which he gained through his important positions like him knows very well that it will be the fight of his life if he says yes. You all remember what happened to Noman Goma’a and Ayman Nour.
If we are serious about the elections whether in 2011 or in 2010 if there are early elections , then we must think in wise way not in the way “ how to tease Mubarak and son” !!
As much a El-Braradei seems like the perfect candidate, he's almost too good to be true. And besides, the New Wafd has hardly any jurisdiction on the current government, so it will be difficult for it to make much of an impact.
ReplyDeleteKeep it coming, Zeinobia, we need as many voicees out there as possible.
It is true that the new Wafd is just a shadow party but let's remember those who said his name in Al Wafd were the young members who could not take anymore from its leaderships. Even if he does not run for Al Wafd , his name gave the Egyptians some hope , there are good candidates other than Mubarak and son and more popular than Mubarak and son
ReplyDeleteNice article Zeinobia, still i tend to disagree that Dr. Baradei would make a good president, as he did win the noble prize but wht really accomplishments did he achieve... Also he is not staying in Egypt and by that he wouldnt really understand the demography of Egypt, which is very difficult to understand. Moreover, the guy is already 60 years old, and that is a look at the past not to the future. I believe Egypt needs the young generation.
ReplyDelete@Ahmed, I agree with you , when you focus more on ElBaradei's CV you will find that he may not be the best candidate still neither all the possible names we mention including Gamal Mubarak.
ReplyDeleteEgypt for sure needs the young generation but it does not Gamal Mubarak
