First I was graduated from two years
Second I never joined the Students' union , nor participated in its elections through voting
Third please read this post :)
Ok it started with the annual Student Unions elections across the Egyptian universities.Of course as these Universities are controlled by the security and regime , and regime and its security are having this Muslim Brotherhood phobia ,and the Muslim brotherhood as an Islamic political stream got many followers in the Egyptian University , and already going to the student Union elections as a member or a representative of a specific political party is prohibited !! It is only for independent students . The government hates the MB , oh boy I guess I said this before
anyway to say it in much easier way "please forgive I have just finished watching saw II and I am some how confused"
There is a battle going on in the Egyptian official national Universities between the government which owns and controls the Universities like Cairo ,Alexandria and Ain Shams and between the Muslim brotherhood , it is another episode in their endless conflict.
Last Cairo University saw big and huge protests from the MB students, already I was graduated from there and I know very well that the Islamic stream in this University is huge , but for some time I thought that this stream was under the government and the security yet I think I was wrong , because last night they made huge protests in the campus , very big one ,with huge numbers of followers angry ,very angry that they were omitted from the elections
They made their protest here , and they were so angry that they took off the old gate in front of the University dome , not on the main gate .
They kept protesting to late hour yesterday ,I don't know what happened today .
I saw a report on the Egyptian national TV praises of course the democratic process of Students' union election in the Cairo University in today News 9 PM , using glass boxes and so on !! Of course there was no picture for protesting students , so I will presume that the security handled it , yes the security and Police are prohibited to enter the campus ,but they still got their men inside ,plus the angry brothers smashed the gates and they wanted to get out !!
in my 4 years in University ,I saw big ,I mean protest and fierce ones , just like in 2001 when they smashed McDonalds and KFC , both restaurants were sold after that to Egyptian chain restaurants , after the damage .Also every year there must be big protests , mostly led by both the Muslim brotherhood and the socialists , they are few in Cairo university but I heard they are tough
One thing for sure I know that in all 4 years in University the anti-riots cars didn't leave the University for a day !!
My grand mother is so glad that I left it :)
If you want my opinion I think it is foolish for MB students to declare their identity ,they should it keep as a secret at still till they graduate from the Universities then they do as they and thus they can go to the elections of Students Union
already I don't find a benefit for this thing that's called Students' union at all in the first place
See these photos.
ReplyDeleteYou know i saw those scenes so close in my university years !!
ReplyDeleteI even saw those soldiers and detectives who disguise in civilian cloths !!
on the other side of the moon, I personaly have a history with the MB students in Cairo University, back in 1996 (or 97 I cant remember) while serving my 4 years at the faculty of commerce, we started the first western music band and we did a very nice concert, and by the way Khaled Selim and Hany Adel (Hala Sheha's husband) were the main vocals in our band! The first concert was smashing, but we did a very big mistake in advertising for the second concert, the MB went balistic on us and on the concert day two hours before we start they broke into the faculty theatre holding pictures for Guns'n'Roses and Metalica and saying that we are the Satanics (although we were playing Eric Clapton's unplugged and some flaminco music!), then the police locked us up inside the theatre coz they afraid to let us out to face the MB students who were really angry, and some of them pissed on the theatre door (literally!) after they prayed Jihad Prayers on us! That day i was inviting my family to attend the concert and my mom almost had a heart attack after seeing the police and the MB fighting outside (MODARRAG GEEM) where the theatre is and she didnt know where I am exactly. That day i had to go back home in a police car because I was the band leader and they asked me not to show up in the faculty for a week until things get cooler.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's my story with the MB!
I can't deny anyone's right of free expression, especially on the national or international SERIOUS problems we face in our countries and I always wish that the students' influence to be more freely practiced, BUT what about the other side of the moon! will they tolerate the others? They ask for tolerance but they can't practice it themselves!
Cheers!
@yellow Egyptian I know about this incident , already I know the theatre and went there several times
ReplyDeletelook I am not fond of the MB nor their ideologies but what can you do ??
freedom of expression, you know all the parties ,not them only should learn the respect of others and their limits of freedom of expression ,it is so difficult ,we are talking about a culture of a whole society
