Maison Thomas restaurant is from the very few restaurants in Egypt that include ham in its menu. If you have their menu you will find there are ham sandwiches and Pizzas, Tarek El-Sharif was smart when he put that menu because he was serving a niche market from foreigners mainly then Egyptian Christians in his chain.
Now I found out that Maison Thomas has been included in Egypt’s no.1 online home delivery site “Otlob.com” , you can check its menu here. Where is the ham ?? Has it been removed from the menu or the menu on Otlob.com does not include ham to please the majority of the users !!?? I have that old menus whether in Cairo dining guide or that stupid one paper menu "I hate it so much" so I do not know if the menu has been changed.
Anyhow if it is the second choice then I believe this is cheating as there are lots of people who will be alarmed that there is a ham in the menu for religious reasons. Either to respect the majority's beliefs and exclude ham from its menu for real or Maison Thomas includes the ham in its online menu. Chez Martin restaurant has included its "Boeuf Bourguignon" main course which is made of beef and red wine
Maison Thomas is from the best places you can eat pizza from in Cairo still I do not like hypocrisy.
Zeinobia my dear.. please do not get furious but sometimes I feel you distrub yourself with things less important than your usual interests
ReplyDeleteAgain,please do not get furious.
you mean pork, ham is a form of pork, and why should it be 'news' when i thought we were all 'brothers/sisters'?
ReplyDeleteThere's no pork in the Maison Thomas restaurants either - mainly because all the pigs were slaughtered months ago
ReplyDelete@Akher Ayam , it is not less important ,it is an indicator for the hypocrisy in this country , I do not know what to call it or how to describe it
ReplyDelete@ anonymous, because we are all brothers and sisters pork and ham should be included in their online menu
@anonymous#2 , are u serious ? they were using our dirty pigs !!
ReplyDeletefirst you say we are all brothers and sisters and then you say that the pork eaten by people in egypt come from dirty pigs. who's the hypocrite?
ReplyDeletedirty pigs!? What did you think, they were using imported ham? Also.. what is a dirty vs a clean pig anyways? They all live in and eat garbage.. regardless of origin!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you ask them and let us know?
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me. When I was back there the Christian Grocery in Chatby, Alex. who used to sell Mortadella lost his Muslim customers when they discovered that he cuts the Pastrami and the Mortadella with the same slicer. Trying to regain those muslim customers he had to buy a second motor slicer, then he had to wear gloves when he slices the Mortadella then finally he gave up and stopped selling Mortadella yet never regained them back. I am sure the restaurant deleted the ham before he has to file for bankrupcy
ReplyDeleteZeinobia, My dear I guess that nobody should eat Meat or Chicken outside home cause we don't know the source of it. second thing we don't know if it was slaughtered with Islamic Shari'a.
ReplyDeleteAh boeuf bourguignon...I've tried to cook it halal several times, have come pretty close, will keep on trying, but deep down I know it will never match the non-halal one.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to get rid of wine in french cuisine !
sego, try different broths..it does come close
ReplyDeleteAbdu:
ReplyDeleteIf you were a bit more into the Slow Food movement, then you would know that not all pigs/boars eat garbage. Some are fed specialty diets to maintain the essence of that particular meat. The Italians, Germans, French, Spanish pork products all have different flavors. If they all ate the same thing, which you imply, then they would all taste the same.
In short: You are what you eat. Perhaps here in Egypt they feed pigs garbage, but not everywhere. So please don't generalize about food products, especially when you have a tainted view to begin with.
