Sheikh Al Azhar's Interview On Dream TV2

Honestly I am amazed , is this the Sheikh Al-Tayeb of Al Azhar !!?? Mona El-Shazly aired an interview with Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb , the current Emam of Al Azhar in her show “10 PM” last Tuesday and it is must watch.
Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb
The interview was about the Alexandria Church attack and it covered a lot of points :
  • Sheikh of Al Azhar is not angry from the angry slogans the young Christians at the Cathedral received him with on Sunday , on the contrary he understands their anger as Upper Egyptian ‘he is from Luxor by the way’
  • The Mosque X Church race in Egypt must stop now.
  • A historical fact most Salafi Sheikhs ignore : Prophet Mohamed “PBUH” let the Christians of Najran pray in his mosque in Madina.
  • Muslims nowadays thanks to media and wrong concepts have introduced the priesthood in to their lives when they are asking for fatwas about everything in their lives.
  • He meant every word he said about Benedict IXV’s statement , El-Tayeb wondered why the pope of Vatican did not speak about the murder of thousands of Muslims in Iraq were killed when his religion calls for Peace !!
  • Still he will go to the Vatican if the Pope wants a real dialogue of peace and cooperation.
  • His initiative ‘The Egyptian House’ will include all religions and sects in Egypt { Non Zionist Jews are mostly welcomed/ I do not know if he will welcome the Bahai’s or not}
Sheikh El-Tayeb represents in this interview the real moderate view of Islam. Despite he got plans to modernize Al Azhar to resort his role internationally and locally as moderate Sunni institution , I believe the good intentions are not enough as long as the Egyptian regime controls it.
Side note : I love how Mona reminded us wisely how the ruler of Egypt affects the relations between its people.

  1. "El-Tayeb wondered why the pope of Vatican did not speak about the murder of thousands of Muslims in Iraq were killed when his religion calls for Peace"

    I was already surprised about his statement when he made it in the first place.

    Answer: As a Pope it is simply not his job to promote the Muslim interest in particular.
    Besides, Vatican has always condemned war as such and in each of the Pope's messages, be it Xmas or Easter he prays for peace: I believe he even condemned the war in Gaza.

    But apart from this: I, being a Christian, like his views.
