An Algerian blogger , a simple Algerian citizen forced the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to freeze a privatization law,yes you read it right
The Algerian Blogger "Ali Rahliah" made a campaign online against "The Oil law" which is a privatization law that opens the way in front of the privatization of Algeria's biggest public sector oil company. As you know Algeria is from the OPEC countries as it ranks the 14th for oil reserves not to mention that the hydrocarbons is the backbone of the country's economy
That online public campaign forced President Bouteflika to rethink again about the law and its results and thus to reach to conclusion that is to freeze the law
That's wonderful ,it is first time something like this to happen in the world and guess where in the middle east ,in the Arab world ,in the third world
I don't know about how things are going in Algeria but I think there is a democracy and the evidence is that Mr.Rahliah is not in jail ,wasn't attacked in public media , and he writes and says what he thinks as free as he wants
You know this proves what the Time wrote in last month edition when they chose the bloggers and co. from podcasters and vloggers as the person of the year 2006 that now people can influence the world
I am very happy and proud of that man
By the way his name again is "Ali Rahliah"
He is working in the Algerian Parliament as I read , his work is to write reports about the news to the parliament.
Beside his blog which unfortunately I can't find I found him writing in a weekly independent newspaper called "The detective" ,he writes in the last page there
