Metro Market against Denmark

You know that the Danish newspapers republished again the offensive cartoons , I will not say "the Prophet Mohammed's Cartoon" because they do not represent Prophet Mohammed , those who drew it do not know the real Prophet Mohammed "PBUH" .

Again the campaigns calling to boycott the Danish goods are back too and it is a natural thing , for every action there is a reaction.

So it is not a surprise to me to find Metro market ,one of the hugest retailers in Egypt putting notes on the cashiers urging its customers to boycott the Danish Products in the Supermarkets.

I have just seen one in Metro Zamalak at Ismail Mohammed St. ,I should have a shot but I am so tired and I could not take one , but I will take one insh Allah soon .

  1. Yes, there is a reaction for every action.

Although, I beg to differ with Metro urging customers to boycott.

To urge, they will have to leave the products on the shelves, and then urge them with the notes not to buy them.

To have no Danish products on the shelves, has not urging whatsoever. The customer has no choice :) Metro is not giving the choice for their customer to buy or not to buy Danish products, and is asking them not to buy it from elsewhere.

Next time you are in Metro, take another look at the sign.

  2. Ever wondered why the cartoons were republished? Or plotting a killing is not a crime in you belief?

  3. excuse me, ya Mr. I beg to differ

Did you know that Urban Outfitters, a popular American clothing store was selling Arab Kuffiehs in 2007 [as a fashion statement of course, since the average American is completely ignorant when it comes to the whole Middle East conflict.] Anyway, the capitalist biatches manufactured millions of kuffiehs, by using child labour in sweatshops all over the world, and were selling them in the US for $20 a piece, what a ridiculous price for a kuffieh!! Now, by using children as slave labor, aren't these "freedom-loving" coorporations limiting the choice and opportunities of others? And they have the nerve to complain about human rights in these countries! Anyway, this is not the point.

There were many jewish complaints after that with the ridiculous claim that these scarves were promoting terrorism, which I find terribly ignorant and insulting since the kuffieh/shmagh/ghotra is a cultural symbol which has been worn by men all over the Middle East for hundreds of years. Despite this fact, in order not to upset the zionists, the kuffiehs were pulled off the shelves.

So, where is the so-called freedom of choice that you are advocating for in your statements?

I really wish people would stop making excuses to divert from the REAL issue here, which is innocent people are being massacred left and right, their lands taken and being denied their basic rights as human beings.

As to the Prophet Mohamed case...

Shall I talk about the WMD's and "terror plots" in pre-war Iraq, or Bush funding Al Qaeda to attack Russia? Did you ever ask yourself why someone would attempt to kill the cartoonist after the cartoons have already been published, And when, like 3 years later!!! Hmm... something's fishy here. This killing attempt story could be no different than other "terror plots" which for the most part are fabricated and complete BS, it gives the opportunists a claim to continue their hate, while a desperate cartoonist and lousy, unknown newspaper get their 15 seconds of fame.

about your question well I wondered and I did not think that the presumed late murder plot should be answered in this way , causing more tension

@I love your blog , I love your reply , seriously I think there is something fishy , first of all I know that there was not one cartoonist in the first time , there were 12 different ones , plus why to wait for three years to plan for murder !!??

@loudlaughter ,I think there will be list very soon for the Danish products in Egypt just likei n the Gulf

  7. I live a few blocks from Urban Outfitters and they do sell the kuffiehs you claimed were not allowed. More importantly....
In regards to the Danish Mohammed cartoon, I continue to hear complaints from Muslims and/or Arabs about not being able to get cartoons that ridicule or deny the Holocaust printed in the west. Strange, not once do I hear Muslims complain about not being able to ridicule or deny Bosnian ethnic cleasing, slavery, imperialism, colonialism, Rwanda, Dafur, etc. What’s up with that? Muslims always complain they’re unfairly accused of anti-semitism but they complain ALOT about not being able to openly ridicule dead Jews, but never mind the media censorship of questioning or ridiculing atrocities when the victims are Muslims, Arabs, Pakistanians, Africans, Iranians, Afgans, etc.
Do newspapers in Egypt allow the same criticism of Arabs and Jews?

  8. @anonymous, Just second I am sorry but did you watch or read any media coverage about what happened in Bosnia or Rwanda or Darfur before saying that we do not attack dictatorships , for your information I do not recall in the Egyptian press any cartoon against the Holocaust or against the Jews who were killed in it
I am sorry but our media covered what happened in Bosnia very well , what happened in Kosovo very well , what Rwanda and Darfur
they did not make fun of it , they discussed it as it should be in a serious way
About the dead jews , well you must be specific we ridicule only from dead Israeli jews who killed other Egyptians and Arabs in 4o years of wars
anyhow I do not know what kind of logic to say that because Muslims can't ridicule their dictators and other dictators in the world because of censorship then the world should ridicule from their Prophet !!

  9. "Urban Outfitters, a popular American clothing store, on Thursday halted sales of a range of keffiyehs, the traditional Arab headdress, which it had been marketing this month as fashionable "anti-war woven scarves.

The firm's CEO, Dick Heyne, e-mailed a pro-Israel activist who had complained about the items earlier this week to stress that the company had not intended "to imply any sympathy for or support of terrorists or terrorism" in selling the keffiyehs and was pulling them."

"Fashion is no stranger to politics and vice versa, but has the keffiyeh lost all political significance with its recent boom in popularity? For a while the scarves were available all over the place. Urban Outfitters sold them for 20 bucks in their stores as “anti-war woven scarves.” After many complaints, the retailer was forced to pull them off the shelves, but curiously enough they seem to have reappeared in select stores."
