It was expected news today that the ICC issues an arrest for Omar Al Bashir ,the Sudanese President for charges of war crimes in Darfur. I am not surprised. It seems that Mubarak regional trips and diplomatic initiatives failed.
Currently there are huge protests across Sudan in Solidarity with Al Bashir where as People in Darfur are happy.
I am currently trying to cover the situation from different angels as usual, this matter is a national security matter to us , Sudan is our Southern gate.
Sudan of course refused the court order and slammed it. This is a quick expectation, Al Bashir won’t travel to any member country on the ICC. It won’t affect him much because there are already economic sanctions imposed on the country. Also we should not forget that China and Russia are backing up Al Bashir especially China. Russia already considered this order as a very serious decision.
Egypt wanted the UN to suspend the ICC warrant on Al Bashir and it is calling the security council for an urgent meetingHere is the official Press Release of the ICC regarding the arrest Warrant
There are expectations that the UN Peace keepers and African Union forces will be attacked today by the supporters of Al Bashir , I hope that the Sudanese would be smart enough not to attack these troops because these attacks will prove nothing. There are some unconfirmed news that Egypt will send more troops to Darfur and the South of Sudan. Update#1 :
- First who is Omar Al Bashir ?? from Wikipedia
- Second more about the Darfur crisis
- Third it is very strange thing that the Arab foreign ministers have met from few hours to issue a statement in solidarity with Al Bashir where it took days to make them to Cairo during the Gaza War.
- The Sudanese Government decided to sack 10 foreign organizations from Sudan ,they accused these organizations of spying for the ICC !!!
- The White House comment on the order is surprising at least to me ,I mean I did not expect the White House to ask all partiesi n Sudan and Darfur not to lose their temper and go mad
- Al Bashir or rather the Sudanese government slammed the ICC saying that it was the White man court and that was just a plan for neo-colonalism

ReplyDeleteIt is not strange at all. The Arab rulers are only worried about their own seats. Watching a murderous dictator getting trialed in an international criminal court is going to hurt their personal interests. The only difference between them and Bashir is that Mama America is protecting their asses, otherwise all of them are bound to meet the same fate shortly.
PS When is the ICC ever going to prosecute Israel for its war crimes? It's about time.
@Banoota, I think if the Arab league and the Arab leaders have a sincere intention to sue Israel in front of the ICC and take real steps the ICC will have to open a serious investigation.
