Is Not This Against The Law !??

This is for Dr.Farouk Hosni who is dying to take care of the world heritage community !!

Did not Hosni Mubarak issue a law that bans the demolishment of villas and Palaces in Egypt !!??

I know that the constitutional court said that this ban does not include non-historical palaces and villas and this is why in a daily basis many villas in Cairo and Giza are being demolished to be replaced with ugly cement buildings.

But I can’t understand or know why on earth General Samir Farag who heads the supreme council of Luxor aka Luxor’s governor decided to demolish the Andreas Pasha palaces complex despite the following reasons :

1- It is more than 100 years old, it was built in 1896 by the Andreas brothers : Yasy and Tawfik Pashas.

2- It is a landmark in Upper Egypt where as historical figures like Mohamed Royal family Saad Zaglol, Sheikh Mohamed Abdu, Kings of Ethiopia and Italy , even members of the Romanov family visited and stayed there!!

3- That complex is registered in the supreme council of antiquity registry of the city’s modern heritage

I forget to tell you that since the nationalization both palaces belong to the state and were transformed to become the HQ of the ruling party NDP.

P1090356

The palace was a real modern landmark in the ancient city in its glorious days !!

I think the Andreas family should sue Farag personally along with Farouk Hosni who neglected the calls of the intellectuals from around Egypt regarding the importance of this complex !!

Already I do not know why they did not use the complex in something useful that a HQ for the NDP , it could be turned in to a museum for the ancient Egyptian treasures found in this area or had been restored from abroad instead of building 100 million museums !!

FYI from couple of months ago there were news coming from Farouk Hosni office that nothing would happen to this complex , well you saw how one of the palaces to used be , now it looks like that “please do not be shocked”

قصر11 Well I am shocked and angry from Sami Farag , Farouk Hosni and Zahi Hawas plus Ahmed Nazif too.

  3. For Zeinobia- I was truly shocked to see the Jon Stewart Youtube in your recent posting. He is after all a comedian who does not seriously or fairly report the news on anything- Nor does most of the media in the U.S. You have doubts about Egyptian media- why do you always accept what the U.S. media reports without question so long as it is critical of conservatives in the U.S.

The objective facts are that the Patriots march had somewhere around 2 Million people. They were mostly the salt of the earth hardworking elements of American society and there was no violence as their too often is when the left demonstrates. As is true in any large group many factions were represented but one would have had to search long and hard to find the woman who expressed concern about Muslims. That is not what the march was about but a comedian like Stewart would throw that in order to tarnish what is a genuine grass roots movement. These citizens were expressing concerns that a President of the U.S. is proposing changes to the United States that will in the end destroy the most successful democratic society the world has ever known. I beg you to broaden your knowledge of America. You put down FOXNEWS but I wonder if you have really watched it and understand what it is saying. It is truly the most fair and balanced news channel in America. That is why President Obama does not want to appear on it and be questioned.

Seriously-you need to come to America and see how people really live and learn what they think. Part of our problem is that we as a society are so successful (even though we have some serious shortcomings) that a large number of our citizens are lulled into complacency and do not even vote. A precious right that is not fully utilized because so many of our citizens are satisfied with their lives no matter who is in charge. Now they have become aware that their complacency has seriously imperiled their way of life. Even in my own family there are some who believed Obama was the answer to our problems. The young are always more idealistic and that is good but I can say after 80 years of life of which 30 were spent around the world I have become an idealistic pragmatist. There will never be a perfect world but we must strive to make a better life for all human beings. To achieve this we must all continue to fight for freedom. People must be free to choose their way of life without compulsion from any group or faction. There must of course be laws to protect us from one another but none that tell us what to believe. I submit the U.S. Constitution provides an excellent framework for any society to emulate. It was and is a remarkable document.

    Salaam alayekum

  4. @Miscribe , this video by the way was shown in some American Channel, I do not remember whether it is MSNBC or CBS but they had to remove the part of this lady, with my all respect I followed this march very well from both sides and it is not just fractions that consider the Muslim roots of Obama are too bad and dangerous for the States. I respect those people concern but mixing Islam in internal issues like this shows hate and ignorance, an ignorance the media is causing it
I remember seeing a woman carrying a poster "Obama Islamic Marxist !!"
This ignorance and hate is caused by channels like Fox which I used to watch in Egypt through ART cable channels before removing it , Fox is biased against Arabs and Muslims , it is not about terrorism. I do not care about the internal affairs about the States but do not bring Islam to your health care debate for God Sake !!

  5. I know this thread is long since gone but I only just saw your comment on my posting. How can you possibly know that MSNBC or CBS "had to remove this part". There is no one in the U.S. but their own producers who could tell them to remove anything. If it were possible that some government entity were able to control MSNBC and CBS they would also be able to control" channels like FOXNEWS" that you blame for spreading ignorance and hate. The truth in America is that we do have a free press and a large part of it is biased towards liberals and the current Obama administration. Many of the major papers spin the news to support their views. The Wall Street Journal (even before Rupert Murdoch bought it) was and still is quite objective and reports the bad news and the good news. FOX does the same.

Zeinobia, I am 80 years old-I have had a great life and I am a softie.(i.e.I love people) I want them over the entire world to thrive. I have lived in countries where Islam was the major religion and I have seen the mistreatment that Christians suffer because of their beliefs. We can go back to the Crusades and the Muslims were the victims.

All of that kind of thinkin should be cast aside and people should be allowed to live in liberty and freedom without the tyranny of any religion or other totalitarian society. This is what you should be fighting for instead of supporting Hezbollah/Hamas and blaming Bush and America for everything that is wrong in the World. America may make mistakes but We really would like to see freedom enjoyed everywhere in the World.

There is so much ignorance and hate throughout the world and much of it is inspired by controlled media that preaches hate and needs enemies in order to distract its citizens from the many failings that exist in their own lands.I would place N.Korea, China, Russia, Iran and Venezuela high on the list but most of the Middle East is also bad in this respect.

I could go on and on but I feel that my pleas fall on deaf ears. In your most recent post about President Obama I agree with you that it is too soon for the Nobel Prize but if he were to earn it as you suggest I would fear for the safety of the entire world besides which you would be condemning the poor women of Afghanistan to the tender mercies of the Taliban men.

I have spent a couple of hours on this and I know it is not perfectly said but believe me it comes from my heart.

    Sincerely yours
