Mohamed Island Long Day

Mohamed Island is a name of a small village in front of the Al-Warq island that most Egyptians do not know that it exists in the first place despite many of them pass by everyday but after yesterday and also after tonight I believe many more Egyptians will know this small village as no one can ignore its people who protested last night and how the security forces cracked their protest in their usual way using tear gas.

The Mohamed Island residents were protesting on the ring highway the decision of the government to include the island to the jurisdiction of 6th October governorate instead of Giza governorate when the security forces came to crack down the big protest leading to clashes between them and the residents. 100 were reportedly harmed from the tear gas bombs which made the scene as if it were from a war zone film !!

Here are videos from the scene below thanks to our wonderful activists.

50 persons from the residents have been arrested by the security forces.

The problem of Mohamed Island area has been on the table for a whole year with no solution what so ever ,the people had to cut the ring highway due to their despair , they wanted someone to listen to their problems still the government as usual is insisting to ignore them. The actions of the security forces will not enforce order and fear in the hearts of the citizens but rather hate and anticipation for any opportunity to express wider anger on a larger scale.

The problem of Mohamed Island is the natural product of random security decrees when suddenly President Mubarak decided that it was time to increase the number of our governorates in order to ensure NDP representation control in our parliament.

  2. the village is divided between two governorates : Giza and october ,the people's life are divided accordingly between two governorates for instance a 6th grade student has to travel 15 kilometer to take his exams
Also pieces of land owned by the people were taken with no compensation what so ever as borders between the two governorates
