It seems that Egypt is not among those 190 countries participating in the Shanghai expo 2010 thanks to our wonderful ministers who do not understand the importance of this world event !!!
It turned out that the ugly Egypt podium is being closed in front of the visitors because clearly our government , the big spender government does not want to transfer and insure our ancient Egyptian statues , it seems that there were plans to show some of our ancient artifacts in Expo 2010 to attract visitors but it turned out that suddenly the government decided to save the Expo 2010 expenses in order to waste it in some useless project. The visitors have already go to the Egypt Podium to find it closed.
I have better suggestion for the government , why we do not omit the ancient artifacts and substitute them with replicas !!? We can save millions , we can also use our national air carrier and national insurance companies to provide transfer and insurance in much cheaper prices !! We can also ask the companies that are going to participate in the Egypt podium to sponsor
If this big event was properly used to market Egypt and its products , we would have gained more than we have spent !!!??
The ugly podium turned to be among the reasons behind our absence , it was designed by a British designing company for a big price tag , the government thinks it was too much !! With my all due respect did the government discover only now the price they have to pay !!? And why we have to depend on a British Design company with all the wonderful Egyptian design companies we have !!??
I hate to say it but I wish that we had participated even in that ugly podium !!
The "British designing company" you're talking about is Zaha Hadid's, the world-famous Iraqi architect based in London. They picked her because she is a well-known Arab.
ReplyDeleteI know Zaha very Well and I do not like her design for our podium , this does not represent Egypt
ReplyDeleteThe decision not to represent Egypt at Shanghai expo is shortsighted because the Chinese people are increasingly traveling abroad as tourists.
ReplyDeleteEgypt will miss out on this opportunity and the export/import business aspect as well.
Egypt will miss out on a great opportunity as China is becoming a major exporter of tourism around the world.
ReplyDeleteyou all should know that Mubarak regime is not for the people or the country but for themselves!
ReplyDeleteHave you been to the expo.. I went there, visited our pavilion and compared it to others. It's a disgrace. I'm in Shanghai now.
