The deal of the century : Feeling angry, helpless and frustrated

I am angry and frustrated.

I already knew that the so-called deal of the century to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Mideast by Trump and his son-in-law administration would be so bad.

I did not expect anything good from it but it still feels like humiliation seeing Trump speaking about “Aqua Mosque” in reference to “Al-Aqsa Mosque” which is the third holiest site for Muslims.

But still, it was like a slap to the face. After all, we got a US president who believes that Arab countries should apologize for fighting Israeli Zionist gangs in 1948 too !!

It is a sad irony to find the current US administration and Israel determine the fate of millions of people without a true real representation of those people aka Palestinians and please do not tell me that the Palestinians did not want to go because since day one Trump and his son-in-law do not’ recognize Palestinian people as humans in the first place.

They do not know or do not even recognize the fundamental fact that the Palestinian people have the right of self-determination.

I feel angry and helpless as Egyptian, Arab, Muslim and above them a human to see the map of Palestine according to that Plan and you find how Palestine dissolves and disappears !!
Palestine and how it is dissolving since 1947
This is just the tip of the iceberg, I have not gone yet deeper in the 181-pages plan on the White House website.

Needless to say, this anger and frustration are shared by millions of Arabs and Muslims who followed the news Tuesday evening around the globe and you can know that by checking the social media.

Hashtag “#Jerusalem's_price_is_blood” in Arabic is also trending.

I feel angry, helpless and frustrated after reading the Egyptian ministry of foreign affairs on the deal.
Egypt calls on both parties involved to carefully consider the US vision to achieve peace…and to open channels for dialogue to resume negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis where they can discuss their visions under US patronage to reach a comprehensive and fair peace agreement that meets the aspirations and hopes of the two peoples and leads to an independent Palestinian state” said the short statement.
Egypt believes it is important to look to the US administration's initiative from a perspective based on reaching a settlement for the Palestinian cause in a way that restores all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, through establishing an independent Palestinian state on the occupied Palestinian territories according to international legitimacy and international laws” The statement added.
For the first since God knows when, a MOFA’s statement about the Middle East peace process without those words “Egypt backs the two-state solution, by which Palestine would be an independent state based on its 1967 borders, with a capital in East Jerusalem.”

Some will say that the Egyptian government referred indirectly the 1967 borders in those words “through establishing an independent Palestinian state on the occupied Palestinian territories according to international legitimacy and international laws” but this is not enough.

By the way according to the quick look done by reporters to the plan , Egypt has a role in this deal and we will get paid for it. Egypt will get $9,167 billion as grants and aids from that deal.

Egypt’s Sameh Shoukry is currently in Washington for the latest round of talks between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam under the patronage of the US department of treasury and the World Bank.

The talks or the meetings kicked off hours following Trump and Bibi’s big show.

SO yes, the statement of Egypt’s MOFA was not that strong or affirmative as it should for a reason.
Sadly the statements of the US democratic presidential candidates are better than the MOFA’s statement.
Shoukry did not attend that big press conference at the White House and the Egyptian ambassador did not show up along the Arab ambassadors who attended the event.

The Arab ambassadors from Bahrain , Oman and UAE attended the press conference. Trump thanked those countries by name.
For the record , a group of Bahraini Tweeps launched “#Bahrainis_against_the_deal_of_the_century” hashtag on Twitter to denounce the actions of the Bahraini government.

Back to Egypt, I believe the Grand Emam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayib earned the admiration of many when he spoke about his feelings concerning Trump-Bibi’s meetings and deal.

“I feel disgrace when I see Trump plans with the Israelis to solve our problem, they plan and control in everything” He said earlier Tuesday and he is right.

  1. If the Palestinians had not refused every single plan, they would have had their state a long time ago... Do you remember that between 1949 and 1967 they could have had a state in the whole west bank and East Jerusalem. At the time the area was under Jordanian rule...

  2. Zeinobia, that region you call 100% historic Palestine looks an awful lot like a certain country you love to hate.

This is a really good article you wrote. You're wrong about most things, in my opinion, but you wrote with spirit and conviction. It's a good read.

    Expat- Exactly.
