Again it is time for one of those monthly Covid-19 posts in Egyptian Chronicles and I hope that I will not have to do this inshallah soon as the pandemic ends worldwide.
This time it is a quick look into official Covid-19 numbers in Egypt after 23 months since its arrival to the country in February 2020.
The usual disclaimer: According to Minister of Health Hala Zayed in January 2021, the official numbers of cases represent between 10%-15% of the real number of cases worldwide Egypt included.

Those official numbers represent the patients who enter the ICUs in designated coronavirus isolation public hospitals in the country in critical condition according to official statements, not the mild cases of coronavirus or those who receive treatment at home.

From November 2021 to December 2021 in Egypt
The total numbers of official registered cases declined from November “27,561 cases” to December “26,997 cases” by 2.05%.
The total numbers of officially registered fatalities declined too from November “1,823 cases” to December “ 1,278 cases” by 29.9%.
Meanwhile, the total number of officially registered recoveries went up from November “19,269 cases” to December “23,027” by 19.5%

Compared to December 2020 in Egypt
The total numbers of official registered cases went up in December 2021 “26,997 cases” compared to December 2020 “22,151 cases” by 21.9.
We were on the verge of a new wave in December 2020 if I remember correctly while we were on the verge of ending another wave in December 2021.
The total number of official fatalities cases increased in December 2021 “1,278 cases” compared to December 2020 “ 981 cases” by 30 %.
I can say again and again that people were cautious in 2020 than in 2021 !!
The total number of official recoveries cases increased in December 2021 “23,027 cases” compared to December 2020 “9,387 cases” by 145.3% !!!!

Vaccination Progress
Egypt has fully vaccinated more than 21 million people while 34.6 million people have received so far their first dose of coronavirus vaccine by the end of December according to the official Cabinet’s statement.
By the end of December, Egypt imported over 119 million Covid-19 vaccine doses according to acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar who added that around 64.3 million doses are still available. This means 54.7 million doses have been used so far.
Egypt tops Africa when it comes to the vaccine doses stock.
