Coronavirus on the Nile: Egypt’s Covid-19 December 2021 numbers in Graph

This is the time of our monthly post about the coronavirus pandemic and its official numbers in graphs in Egypt.

This is the second December to pass in Egypt during the Covid-19 pandemic, unfortunately. Hopefully inshallah, it will be the last December.

Disclaimer: According to Minister of Health Hala Zayed in early January, the official numbers of cases represent between 10%-15% of the real number of cases worldwide Egypt included.

First, the official daily cases of coronavirus in Egypt

The fourth wave of coronavirus pandemic began to fade away in December officially as numbers went down from 900s in the first week of the months to mostly 800s for the rest of the month.

There is a total of 26,997 Covid-19 cases recorded in December.

Again we are speaking about the official count which is based on the critical cases admitted to the ICUs in the public hospitals.

Those numbers do not represent the real patient numbers or those who are treated in homes.

On 13 December 2021, the Health Ministry recorded 799 cases of Covid-19, the lowest number of daily cases in December whereas on 1 December 2021, the Ministry recorded 938 cases; the highest number of daily cases in the month.

On 18 December 2021, Egypt recorded officially three cases of the Omicron variant in the country. Three Egyptians coming back from South Africa tested positive for Omicron at Cairo International Airport.

They were isolated and treated at a Cairo hospital following the Health Ministry before they were fully recovered according to health officials.

Moving to the fatalities official numbers

The coronavirus fatalities also declined in December generally too in December.

In total, we got 1,278 cases.

On 1 December 2021, the Health Ministry recorded 63 deaths; the highest death toll in the month while on 23 December it recorded 10 Covid-19 cases only; the lowest death toll in the month.

Those official numbers are less than the real numbers according to the officials in Egypt.

In December, Egypt’s Doctors syndicate recorded 13 fatalities among doctors officially.

In November, the syndicate recorded 24 fatalities among doctors so there is a fatality decline among doctors; which is a great indicator of improving working conditions.

Moving to the fully recovered patients

Now moving to the vaccination situation news, the real good news in December

Egypt has fully vaccinated more than 21 million people while 34.6 million people have received so far their first dose of coronavirus vaccine by the end of December according to the official Cabinet’s statement.

Compared to November’s official vaccination numbers, we say in December that nearly 4 million people received their first show while nearly 5 million people received their second shot based ON MY OWN ESTIMATIONS

According to acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, 100,000 people were vaccinated in December in metro stations, train stations and malls in Cairo, Giza and Alexandria following a public vaccination campaign without registration in public places that launched in November.

Nevertheless, Egypt failed to meet the goal set by the World Health Organization “WHO” to fully vaccinate 40% of the population by the end of December 2021.

Technically we reached at least half of this goal or at least 20% only.

Already very few African countries reached this goal.

When it comes to Covid-19 vaccines Egypt received this month, we have to do to calculate it too.

Egypt imported over 119 million Covid-19 vaccine doses according to acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. In November, Egypt got a supply of 98.4 million doses of different coronavirus vaccines whereas, at the end of October, we had 72 million doses of the vaccines.

This means that Egypt received about 20.6 million Covid-19 vaccine doses in December then according to my calculations.

Be sure to follow Egyptian Chronicles live Coronavirus coverage for the month of January.

Just stay safe and register yourself to get vaccinated if you are in Egypt as soon as possible inshallah.
