Well it is not that exclusive , but I think it is exclusive in the Egyptian blogsphere and media , it is not a big thing but for me ,for the nostalgia condition I am living in "I do not know but since all what is happening in Egypt currently I became more and more attached to the past".
I was lucky enough thanks to my Royal Photos collection Flickr to be contacted by Mr.Ellis from the UK , Mr.Ellis is the nephew of Miss Nance Ellis who was appointed by King Fouad to become the nanny of Princess Faiza . Mrs. Nance came to Egypt in 1914 to work in the Abthia hospital as a tutor for Midwives and Nurses "May be it is our infamous Abthia hospital may be another hospital in the area there" . Her relation with the Palace started when she attended the birth of the princesses then she appointed to be the nanny of Princess Faiza and her tutor , along with the other younger princesses. Miss Ellis survived the decision of dismissal of Queen Nazli to dismiss all those hired by husband to work in the Palace after his death in 1936. She stayed with the family till year 1941 , already princess Fawzia got married the Shah and the other girls grew older and joined their mom's company unfortunately,
Still the connections between Miss Nance and the palace were still there , she had her royal pension and the princesses were in touch with her , she lived in Cairo till 1950. She returned back to Chester in 1950. I think she left after the departure or exile or the escape of Nazli and Fatahiah to the United States. Still she received her pension till 1952 as it was cut after the revolution . The pension was cut but the connections and the good relations with the Princesses were not cut. Princess Faiza in noble unsurprising act used to visit her from time to time ,sending her postcards and presents.
Not only Princess Faiza kept contact with Miss Ellis but also Fatahiah. Here is a scan for a Christmas card that was sent by Fatahiah to her old nanny in 1960s I think . This is the exclusive thing because for the first time I found in the Christmas Card the photos of the offspring of Fatahiah and Riyad Ghali : Rafik,Rayed JR and Rania as children , I have a photo with their mother in 1970s after her dramatic murder by the hands of the same man she stood against the world for ; their father Rayed SR, they looked much older.
Here is the photo "click on it to see it better"
The boys looked so much like Rayed Ghali , they did not take anything from their uncle King Farouk nor their mother who was very beautiful.
Here is the photo of Rayed Ghali .
Rania had took some things from her mom , may be the eyes and mouth , here is the photo of Princess Fatahiah along with princess Faeka as tiny little girls.
Fatahiah's offspring are really seen in the media , in fact they do not have any presence at all and you do not have to be genius or close to them to know that with such history of your parents, you will welcome the media in your life , I mean your dad shot her mom and killed her , you mom is facing a terrible economic situation and already your mom was a princess who left the country after a scandal not to mention that the royal family your mother belongs to you already was overthrown. Fatahiah's story among all the other Egyptian Royal stories is the most dramatic ,Saddest and controversial story.
Rayed Ghali JR died last year in California where they all live. I do not think that they came to Egypt.
I want to speak about the Riyad Ghali and Fatahiah Chronicles between unfortunately it is not about the time but about the priorities in the blog whether to speak about the politics ,about current events in Egypt or about history
anyhow may be one day I write about them
good blog i inviet u to viest my blog
ReplyDeleteWow--that was so interesting yet so sad. I wish you would write more on them. I would love to find a good book in English about the royal family of Egypt--how it came to be and how it was overthrown, and I'd love to know what those surviving are doing now--where and how they live. If you know a good book in English, please let me know! Meantime...Hope you don't mind the plug! If you do, feel free to delete. Wish you'd join! Thanks!

To Anon; to your jnowledge (which I don't think you have much), Mohamed Ali's contributions to Egypt still unmatched(by far). That should say alot about those "low origin Albanians" compared to who came after them. No, I am not Albanian, I am Christian and I live in the west. Good luck with those high class Egyptian rulling (and going to rule) Egypt(!!!.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the typo on the first line; I meant 'knowledge'.

@Snobymind , anonymous here is an old white male Arab racist who hates blacks and Aryans alike
Rayed Jr. was a lover of mine for years, between all the other afairs that we both had -though-out the 80's and 90's we would always find each others passion-going though a box of cards today,I found a sweet hand written and adressed card sent to me-Easter 1993--there was no one like him in the world, with movie star looks, the body of a God, a wicked fast wit, and dripping with charm...Rayed I miss you at Christmas, and you will always be my Prince--- Love JSL 2008
ReplyDeleteI know I miss him too!!! I met Rayed when I was 9 yrs old. I still hear his voice. Sita
Delete@anonymous JSL , you got to be kidding !!?? wow so did he tell you about his royal connections in Egypt ?? about his uncle the last king of Egypt or his cousins or his aunts??
ReplyDeletedid he speak about the awful crime of his father !!??
did he wish to come back to Egypt ??
I am sorry if I ask too much :)
The Children of Princess Fathiya--I wondered what happened to them. They still have Royal blood in their veins even if their Mother lost her title still the other family members are alive who hold courtesy titles. I wondered who raised the children after their Mother's death? Did an Aunt come over from Egypt? I know Queen Nazli (former title)must have had some influence on their life. Did they grow up in poverty?
ReplyDeleteI lived in Cairo, married to an Egyptian for six years and loved it there. I am curious...as to who raised the Children in California after the death of their Mother? I am sure Queen Nazli did her best--it is sad that their Mother and Grandmother had their royal titles revoked by King Farouk--Royal blood still runs in their veins and I and sorry that Rayed died. Does Rania and her surviving brother live there still?
ReplyDelete@anonymous, well they were not that young , already Nazli was too old to look after them.
ReplyDeleteRania and her brother do live there up till now
Zeinobia do they stay in touch with their relatives in Egypt or are the persona non grata as it were? What kind of lives do they have in California?
ReplyDeleteI've known Rayed Jr. when I was very young in the 60's, I knew his family very well then. We went to school together back then too. I was sorry to hear that he has departed from this world last year. Can anyone tell me the cause??
ReplyDeleteBy the way, his mother was one of the finest person that I ever met. Her kindness and compassion for others was remarkable. I always remember her as being saintly. It was so tragic on how it ended for her.
I grew up with Rafik, Rayed, and Ranya in Hawaii. Their mother "Atty" was one of the most beautiful and kind women on earth. The queen mother "Nana" was like a grandmother to me. I loved the family dearly. In reading this website, I am just now learning of Rayed dying, and am terribly saddened, as I lost touch with the family when they moved back to California, and Atty was murdered. Please tell me about Rayed.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell us where did they live in Hawaii? Which house or address?
Deletealohaman01@yahoo.com
I too knew Rayed Jr. in the 70's and 80's, like many I found out he had passed through these blogs. He was a great guy and I am sorry he is not with us. I wish he was.
ReplyDeletewell , i'v been asking the same question you are asking " where are the childeren of princess fathia?" i was trying to locate any thing on the net , until now , i hope to get information about them and their childern and how they were able to cop up with their family's tragedy
ReplyDeleteI got interested in the royal family after I saw the Egyptian mini series last year of King Farouk and then this year of Queen Nazli ( queen in exile). Upon searching the website I found your site and was curious where the children of the princess ended up. Nothing is mentioned about the conversion of the queen and princess Fatheya.. What prompted them to convert and did the young offsprings get in touch with their uncle and aunts?
ReplyDeleteAs many I also knew Rayed Jr. in the 70's and found him to be a terrific person. I also had wondered what happened to him as I lost track when I moved overseas....he is missed very much.
ReplyDeletey a t'il quelqun qui a des nouvelles de raniya et rafik Ghali, j'ai chercher sur internet mais j'ai rien trouver sauf ces information:

ReplyDeleteI did some calculations...and if they did get married their children would be about my age or a bit older...i saw some episodes of the series about King Farouk's life and i watched the entire Queen Nazli's life story in the series (queen in exile) and i got really interested in knowing what happened after the the queen passed away...i did some research and found out that she was burried next to her daughter Fathia...but nothing else...until now..i saw that Riyad Jr. passed away too ! And that Rania is 56 years old...does anyone have more insights ??
PS: who is the author of this article ???

DeleteContact me { artisthouseauction ( at ) gmail com } we will defiantly deed top talk price. I was going to have Heritage Auction deal with the sell.
I also have many mailed envelopes the royal family. Not to mention many personal Christmas greeting cars, birthday cards, hello/ miss you cards to and from the King Riad Ghali to daughter Ranya.
The quote I received for the to boxes of letters, photos and financial statements to Western Union money transfers to Telegrams was quite impressive. if still interested call me Al, I will send you some pictures of what I have of this Royal family.
When I learnt of the rise and fall is was sad, however, from what I read, the strong love a passion for their family is what made them stay together. This family is a prime example that money can't buy love, it's earned through love.
Edward
