How to Escape Israeli Shelling in a Gaza Market

Can you imagine the terror of escaping a military bombardment in a densely populated city?

Israeli shelling of Rafah
This is how the Israeli shelling looks like in a civilian area in Rafah

This was the reality for Joe Jayyab, a young Palestinian content creator once dubbed “Palestine’s Youngest Travel Blogger” who turned into a military correspondent.

A week ago, Jayyab and his brother ventured to a market in Rafah to purchase food supplies.

In a video captured by Jayyab, you can see just how close the shelling is to civilians.

Escaping Israeli shelling

According to Jayyab, Israel was targeting a UNRWA school that had become a refuge for hundreds, if not thousands, of families. Amidst the chaos, people were still attempting to buy their supplies in the market.

In a poignant moment, the young content creator is seen reciting Al-Shahada as his final prayer.

On December 22, some news outlets reported that Israeli warplanes targeted a civilian car in Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The attack resulted in the death of seven people and left others injured.

Yet Palestinian news agency “WAFA” reported that eight people were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli bombing that targeted two houses in Rafah.

Three of them were in a house belonging to the Dahir family in western Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

They were all transferred to Al-Kuwait Hospital in Rafah.

According to official UNRWA figures from mid-December, there are over a million displaced Palestinians in Rafah. Compounding the crisis, most of the hospitals in the south, including those in Rafah, are out of service.

Israeli Occupation Army ordered the Palestinians in the North of Gaza to head allegedly to safety in South Gaza, especially in Rafah. Yet Rahaf and Khan Younes proved to be as dangerous as North Gaza

In the face of such devastation, words often fall short.

  1. The first victim she said she saw was a young woman with copper-color hair, blood running down her back, pants pushed down to her knees. One man pulled her by the hair and made her bend over. Another penetrated her, Sapir said, and every time she flinched, he plunged a knife into her back.

She said she then watched another woman “shredded into pieces.” While one terrorist raped her, she said, another pulled out a box cutter and sliced off her breast.

“One continues to rape her, and the other throws her breast to someone else, and they play with it, throw it, and it falls on the road,” Sapir said.

She said the men sliced her face and then the woman fell out of view. Around the same time, she said, she saw three other women raped and terrorists carrying the severed heads of three more women.

    1. The fact that the Israeli committee rejects working with the UN and letting it do its job investigating as it should like in other countries whether Sudan or Syria or Iraq or Ukraine raises many question marks, especially the UN does not really take sides if we are speaking about true justice. The UN keeps the names and identities of the women confidential.
Either way, you do not correct a wrong with a wrong or a sin with another sin.

  2. The comments will stop here because I won't allow any justification for any kind, what is happening in Gaza are not a single war crime but rather series of war crimes than nothing under any pretext justifies it.
