Gaza War 2023: This is what the real humans of Gaza are saying “International Women’s Day edition”

Today marks International Women’s Day and the world celebrates it superficially under slogans of “empowerment” and “gender equality” while women suffer all over the world in one way or another.

It is not really a “happy International Women’s Day” in Gaza “nor in Sudan or Congo or in Syria too FYI”

The following are facts the world is ignoring actually why it is a sad International Women's Day.

  • At least 9,000 women have been killed, and many more are under the rubble.
  • On average, 63 women are killed in Gaza per day - 37 are mothers who leave their families behind.
  • In North Gaza where there is ongoing famine, 95% of pregnant and breastfeeding women face severe food poverty.
  • Nearly 9 in 10 women find it harder to access food than money.
  • 4 in 5 women indicated that at least one of their family members had to skip meals in the past weeks.
  • 95% of the mothers in North Gaza are going without food.
  • More than 690,000 menstruating women and girls currently have no privacy and limited access to menstrual hygiene supplies.
  • There are approximately 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza who are at risk of malnutrition.
  • Abortion without any medical care follow-up skyrocketed in Gaza by 300%

The source of this info is the UN agencies.

Now here is what the real humans of Gaza, the real women of Gaza, young and old got to say to the whole world.

Here is Gaza’s youngest reporter in Rafah in her latest dispatch about the condition of women in the Gaza displacement camps

Iman Zakout does not feel the same energy about the IWD 2024 at the displacement camps, simply because she feels that women are being wiped out.

“In Palestine, we do not have Women’s Day.” Iman Zakout, a displaced Palestinan now living in a tent in Gaza, shared her thoughts on the plight of Palestinian women ahead of International Women’s Day. Since Israel launched its war on Gaza, women in the besieged enclave have faced extreme challenges while ensuring the survival of their families amid severe shortages of basic life necessities. At least 9,000 women have been killed by Israel since October 7, including an estimated 37 mothers each day, according to UN Women.

Again, more than 690,000 menstruating women and girls in Gaza currently have no privacy and limited access to menstrual hygiene supplies.

Despite the need for sanitary pads, the women in Gaza put their efforts into making babies diapers instead amazingly.

From the UNRWA which Israel is trying to destroy and end in a silly belief that if there is no UNRWA there will be no Palestinian Refugees nor the right to return.

To the great women doctors of Palestine's Gaza, who continue to fulfil their duties despite facing numerous challenges.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society also pays respect to the Palestinian women healthcare workers.

I can’t speak about the Palestinian women healthcare workers without mentioning the fantastic Dr Ameera El-Souli.

El-Souli became yet another Gaza superhero when she ran to save a journalist after he was shot down by Israeli forces at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younes earlier in February.

Dr Ameera, a Palestinian doctor was actually in Egypt when Israel launched its war against Gaza and returned back to help her people.

She also stayed till the last moment in the storming of Nasser Hospital. El-Souli also saved her cat Bella after 60 days when she returned to her destroyed home during the truce.

In Rafah, there is a sweet grandmother called Shehnaz who knits for the displaced children of Gaza at the displaced people camp in January.

Shehanz has one wish which I wish comes true inshallah.

The clip was filmed by Anas Ftiha and translated by Untold Palestine.

Here is another granny filmed by Rabie Abo Naqaira with a message to the Israeli army.

Resistance takes many forms in Gaza and the Palestinian woman leads it. She has been leading since day one already. This post does not cover 0.0005 of the greatness the Palestinian women in Gaza have shown. They raised the bar for Arab women for real.

Follow Untold Palestine to hear the stories of the real humans of Gaza.

By the way in a very rare move for real, Cairo witnessed a small protest in solidarity with Palestinian women in Gaza in its downtown.

The protest was organized by a group of leftist activists. Their numbers were not big but their voices were high sending an important message.

  1. The only thing they are resisting in Gaza is reality. Jews have no where else to go so you will be crushed. Give back the hostages.
