Breaking News : Wael Ghonim is free again "Updated"

Wael Ghonim has been released from detention at last since his arrest on January 28,2011. He tweeted from his Blackberry his first tweet since his release moments ago and it says : Freedom is a bless that deserves fighting for.
Ghonim's first tweet after release
Omar Soliman promised  yesterday to release Wael Ghonim today at 4 PM Cairo local time.
Till 8.00 PM there was nothing about Ghonim and we were very angry but it seems that the general did not lie yet this is not enough.
We want all our detainees to be released ASAP and Wael Ghonim is our representative.
Our Egyptian Google executive has won international fame as a hero of revolution .
I waited till we are 100% sure of his release and published this news.
Welcome back Wael Ghonim.
Here is Wael Ghonim's first photo from On TV , he is with Hossam El-Badrawy , the secretary of NDP in their way to his home
Wael Ghonim and Hossam El-Badrawy
Update :
  • We saw Wael Ghonim speaking to Hossam El-Badrawy in the car , he was seemed to be very angry while speaking to El-Badrawy.
  • It turned out that Ghonim told El-Badrawy to resign from the NDP if he respects himself.
  • Wael did not speak to the media except few seconds to ON TV , he hurried to his uncle's house so fast carrying his Mac book.
  • Wael said in a very short interview or rather a statement to ON's camera that he sent his condolences to the families of the martyrs and that he is not a hero as he has been sleeping for 12 days. " actually based on his appearance he has not been sleeping for 12 days"
  • Wael also said that Egypt will be clean from the "trash" it has got soon enough insh Allah.
  • He will be speaking on 10 PM show on Dream TV 2 soon with Mona El-Shazly. He is a friend to Mona El-Shazly already.
  • Here is an interview in video

  • Wael spoken on Dream TV 2 and he made millions of Egyptians cry. Wael spoke about his abduction by the state security at 1 AM Friday 28,2011. He was blindfolded for 12 days till his release today. According to what we understood from Wael , he was not tortured but only blindfolded. He was being interrogated by security officers who wanted to know if he were working for foreign powers or not. He convinced them without an evidence but with what he said.
  • According to Wael , these people love Egypt but they do not understand us , we love Egypt too but in different way. Wael believed that they did not understand how this revolution took place.
  • Wael did not seek the American citizenship since 2001 despite he is married to an American lady. Already he was on the verge of divorce because of all the time he spent on "We are all Khaled Said" group.
  • In those 12 days while blindfolded "and logically handcuffed" , he kept remembering the song of Hamza Namira " Dream with me"
  • He does not see himself as a hero , there are others to deserve to be heroes , he is just a keyboard fighter.
  • FYI Wael was being interrogated by both GIS and State security , he faced grave accusations.
  • He met with the new minister of interior today who told him that he was appointed from 6 days ago and Wael felt a huge change , he is speaking to him man to man , vis a vis unlike
  • Wael cried several times in show, when he spoke about how he was sad of treason charges , when he spoke about how his dad in Saudi could lose his other eye because of his absence and he lost control when he saw the photos of martyrs killed by Mubarak's security forces. He bursted in to tears telling the parents that it is not our fault but the fault of those who are clinging to power and then stormed out of the studio.
To every mom &dad who lost a son we're sorry, it's not our fault, it's that of those clinging to power

  • According to eye witnesses Wael did not know the number of martyrs and he asked the people in the studio how many people were killed and when he knew the official numbers "316" , he broke down
  • Wael's sincere talk and cry from the heart changed the mind of millions of Egyptians literally , sorry millions of Arabs who were watching this episode with us !!
  • You can read the English transcript of the interview here at Al Jazeera English blog
  • Expect a huge protest in Al Tahrir tomorrow
  • Here is the interview itself , you can see it after the break

  2. That was incredibly moving and I also felt outraged at the slideshow and music... Really, give him a break! Wow!

Also, it's clear what he means about not wanting to be a hero, but a hero of the keyboard, and the Internet, still counts. Explaining everything for days while in jail is also heroic, as much as facing bullets, being absolutely in the power of secret police known to torture and kill people for what they say or write, and still saying truth to their face.

    This is so sad.

The whole episode (I mean the violent reaction to the protests) is both sad and unbelievable!

Youth (in the security services) killing youth on the streets - it's fratricide in broad daylight!

The point about 'loving Egypt' is very interesting.

We also have some of those in power in North Sudan who believe they 'love' North Sudan more than others and this backward, despicable mindset must be countered.

No group has a monopoly of 'patriotism'.

The nation is the common property of its citizens.

You should not worry about Anas AlFiqy or anyone else - the whole world bears witness to the heroism of the Egyptians who demanded change and dignity.

History will remember the crowds and the martyrs and not AlFiqy or his allegations.

(I think this proves once and for all that I don't hate neither Egypt nor the Egyptians - yes we have our issues - but we'll talk about them once your peoples' demands have been met).

  4. Dear Zeinobia,

With all my due respect and admiration for Wael, he is very genuine indeed, but to talk to this Mona Al Shazly has taken away a lot of his credibility.
She very simply proofed to us that the same system is still very well in place and working, if it weren’t for Dr. Al Badrawi's daughter who informed her dad, and if Wael was not the representative of the Multinational Google, he would have still be in prison, beaten and blind folded.
Please all these pretenders and really actors, El Shazly, Mootaz al demerdash, Amr adib and Rola Kharsa, the two thugs of 48 Hrs (Al Ahram’s Sayed and his NDPian companion) all other Yahat1, 2, etc... and of course the originals of the Egyptian public channels should have the decency to just QUIT, Enough, Kefaya. Don't these people get it, they are the symbols of the one of the ugliest periods of the Egyptian history, no matter how they change their camp overnight, they lost our respect long time ago. Can anyone put them all with the Anas Al Fiki and kick them so that they might get it.
    Hasbia Allah.

  5. Also by the way, instead of El shazly uttering with her usual stupid style that some business or wealthy whatever want to give money to the martyrs families, another insult, what an insensitive comment, if any of them would loose his or her child, will they be consoled by any amount of financial reward, what a stupid person she is.
If anyone has money and we all know that they are plenty in Egypt from the regime’s entourage and they want to suddenly become patriotic, let them commission the best Egyptian Sculptor to work on a
“ Statue of the Freedom’s Martyrs شهداء الحريه” and put it standing up and high in Tahrir Square. We have been for years discussing what or whose statue should occupy the empty pedestal there.
Just a note from a furious, angry and very sad old Egyptian.

  6. Hossam Badrawy is either a cynical hypocrite or a dumb tool being used to put a "kinder, gentler" mask on this monstrous regime. I don't think he's dumb.

While all the news was about Wael Ghoneim's release and how nice Hossam Badrawy is, Kareem Amer was being kidnapped by the thugs of this regime WHO ARE STILL IN FULL POWER AND DOING THEIR DIRTY WORK:

  7. This regime is not to be trusted in any shape or form.
If the regime continues to play its shady games, the revolution will go underground and turn to violence.

  8. felt sad to see him cry and even more sad to feel all the load he and all others in protests are carrying around. not fair. so young to have even the tiniest of guilt for the lives lost in the events. they're not guilty - i know and they all know - but just being put in a situation where your actions being linked even by a shy hint to the death of another pure and life-full youth is so painful.
good part is i've seen the immediate change in paradigm among - weeks ago - indifferent youth and families. we need support and sympathy people. we are midway to overthrow the regime. we need to keep going.
