It snows in Hurghada too

Egypt will have a lot to show when it comes to climatic change in the upcoming UN Conference on Climate aka COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

On Saturday and Sunday, the city of Hurghada has had its share of the unstable weather conditions hitting Egypt since last Thursday.

Yes, people in Hurghada whether residents or tourists woke up on that scene on the first day of the year.

According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority “EMA”, there are low-pressure areas affecting Egypt from Thursday till Tuesday inshallah.

I saw and lived cold waves before but I do not recall seeing heil and snow in a place like Hurghada.

This is the famous Giftun island covered in snow in a scene I did not imagine seeing.

Here is a video from Hurghada Tourist Walkway covered in snow

Those videos on Tiktok are from Hurghada.

Thankfully the snow and heil have melted but they left us with lots of questions starting about why there is a radical change in weather and climate to the need for a rain drainage system in Egypt to emergency plans …etc.

From a very long summer to snow and heil in Hurghada must make you ask many questions and climate change is the short answer.

Usually, the Red sea region and upper Egypt are used to heavy rain but not snow and heil.

This happens a couple of weeks after Alexandria.

There is indeed climate change and it can’t be denied. Minister Yasmine Fouad must gather all this in the file about Egypt and the climate change for COP27.

  1. It is very warm for snow. This is just heavy hail associated with the unstable weather and convective storm clouds. Snow requires temperature close to freezing and this is nearly impossible down south in Hurghada.

On the other hand, hail can occur even at 40C.
