The truth about Adel Emam

I received an Email from dear reader Isaac about Adel Emam, the famous Egyptian comedian and actor. It seems that the Israeli press is circulating Emam’s so called quote that Hamas brought itself after all they were attacking Israel ,sending their rockets to Israel not listening to the wise Egyptian leadership…bla bla bla !!

Emam is considered there as an Egyptian Icon and unfortunately he is an icon , an Icon of Mubarak no more or less.

Emam is well known regime spokesperson. What ever the regime says he is with it. He loves Mubarak and son. He will do what ever it takes to please the regime. The regime attacks Hamas, then he will attack Hamas. The regime praises Hamas,he will praise Hamas. Again it is well known fact to all Egyptians.

Even his clash with the Islamists , it is based upon the orders of the regime. Of course I should not forget that it is noticeable that his tune became less harsh after the marriage of his daughter from the son of a very well known MB. That MB leader I think is currently in jail.

Strangely the Israelis forgot that from couple of years ago Emam starred a film called “The Embassy in the building” where he attacked and made fun them widely. “Yeah he did not act the terrorist only

Look with my all respect to Emam and his long time career as comedian , I can’t consider him a serious political commenter unlike Mohamed Sobhy or for instance his long time Syrian rival Doriad Laham.

Speaking of Laham, I can’t forget the later great act when he resigned from his position as an Ambassador of the UNICEF objecting the war against Lebanon in 2006.
Of course I should bring out the fact that Emam himself is an UNHCR Ambassador but unlike Laham we never find him speaking about the the Palestinian refugees !!

Emam’s own talk about his fancy position is his friend Angelina Jolie !!!!

We never see him visiting refugee camps in Darfur or in Lebanon or Pakistan and even when he goes to some refugee camp ,he goes there as the star Emam not as the Ambassador of good well. He always wears his expensive suits and glasses unlike Angie I am afraid !!

I remember that Emam went to Bagdad during the time of Saddam and he presented his play to the Baath rulers not to the people of Bagdad !!

I remember also that Emam justified the terrible attack of the Egyptian forces against the Sudanese refugees in Mustafa Mahmoud sq. on new year’s eve from two years ago if you remember them too !!

This is whom Israel considers a good supporter to its cause in murdering the Palestinian people.

  2. Although I'm not a big fan of Imam, I sometimes like him as a comedian. Other than this, I really don't give a $hit about whatever nonsense he or any of our *great* actors say when they try to play intellectuals.

  3. Emam believe the regime is the best current choice for Egypt now, why you blame him for his own opinion?

  4. Adel Imam is no more than a clown, an evil and maybe a smart one. He employs his movies and plays to smoothly spread his corrupted social and religious values and beliefs.

  5. He is talanted comedian ,he is part of the regime ,yes he knows how to use his talant to spread smiles in one wary and you may think he is against the corrupted rejime but in fact he supports the corruption of the rejime on the other funny way , Yes .. clown

  7. Your article is titled "The truth about adel imam", although all what you said are just LIES about adel imam. Can't someone say his opinion anymore ? He thinks Hamas is to blame, So what ?
get over yourself and let others live. I heard some sheikh issued a fatwa stating that imam is "mahdoor damo" which means that it's not wrong to kill imam for what he has said and if that's correct .. Well that just shows what a pathetic country we live in.

  8. @Jack, Dear Jack Al Arahab Wal Kabab film was like vent no more no less.
Emam is proud supporter to President Mubarak and he says this frankly

@Hina Wa Hank, I like him too as comedian but sometimes I can't ignore what he says

@An Egyptian , you got a point but he is saying this not because he believes in it but for hypocrisy

@anonymous, considering him as an evil is a big thing, he is a comedian , it will be the mistake if anyone follows him not his

@anonymous#2, you put him in the right context

@anonymous#3,you can watch his films as you watch as any other comedy just like any American comic film like Jim Carrey's despite the fact I believe if we boycott his films ,he will feel how it hurts

@Mostafa Ezzat, Dear friend I did not say any lie about Emam you can find the links in which I depend upon
Already FYI the Fatwa was issued in Algeria not in Egypt

  9. Dear Zeinobia,

Adel imam is against extremism and you can see that in alot of his movies. I couldn't find any links for the "adel imam is a regime spokesperson" or "his clash with islamists is orders from the regime" parts in your article, and that's why I said you post lies about him. I know what he said about extremists and although I differ slightly with him but he got a point and he's man enough to say his opinion against people who can make his life a living hell. He's definitely not a hyprocrite.

I can't see any sheikh make a strong stand against extremism or terrorism, those are the hypocrites my friend ...

  10. Dear Zeinobia
very well composed article. We just need more arabic writers to show their respect for the arabic reader. Truth can't be covered by colorfull words. As for Adel Imam the truth is that the media had made him into an Icon, I tried to watch few of his new movies but honestly I couldn't finish any of them, they were an insult, and had poor---- comdey. Denfinetly not family friendly. If that what is the arabic crowds demand then there is no hope for those young minds.

  11. @Mostafa Ezzat, Dear Mostafa Adel Emam expressed several time his support to Mubarak and son attacking all those who are against them regardless of the dictatorship and corruption , yes he attacked extremism in the past but what about now !!??

@anonymous,Dear anonymous thank you so much for words. Adel Emam's latest films were not family friendly at all , in fact now the only family friendly comedian in Egypt is Ahmed Halmi and thank God he does not speak about Politics like Adel Emam

  15. Adel might be a regime guy, a hypocrit or whatever bad label you want to attach to him; however, we must not ignore his artistic value in the Arab world. He has made us laugh, may be more than any other comedian at a time when we really needed to and has given us more than any body else in the Arab world food for thought about ourselves as Arabs, muslims and human beings. People here tend to criticize his implied views on religion, sex and politics; artists around the world have done that in the western world and did in fact change the world around them by opening people's eyes. Adel is one of the very few Arab artists who constantly tries to push peole to think outside the box. Unfortunately, people are too blind/deaf to get his messages. Not only that, but some folks are quick to slander him with some of the nastiest allegations and even issue a fucking fatwa against him.
