Don't laugh. Lots of people do it. Every year around Christmas, I order boxes of Italian Torrone, from Williams-Sonoma, because it is just like the Torrone my dad used to buy for me, and I now buy it for my family. We also order a specially smoked ham (I know -haram!) All the universities have mail order snack type packages for exam week, cakes and muffins for birthdays, and there are shops in NYC that take internet orders (I've heard.)
There is a sight for fast food delivery via internet orders available for Egypt. Given that I can get just about anything I want delivered here in Cairo, it doesn't surprise me that Amazon has expanded into the grocery business back in the States.
Really It's attractive for people in US especially that Amazon website mentions that all these items are eligible for free shipping and that these items will be shipped to your door, just like any other Amazon.com purchase.
@Vagabondblogger, I don't laugh in fact you will be surprised that to know that there are similiar websites in Egypt also for seasonal products , for example the Sheeps for the grand Eid , many now are buying online,in fact the first one who started this business in Egypt were graduates from my school but there are difference between special smoked ham and Tide and pop corn , the idea is that we began to depend on the internet even for the simplest thing From a business point of view ,it can be profitable especailly if we are speaking about People who live for example in the mountains or forests away from the city my friends tried the internet fast food delivery in Cairo and it is great in fact I want to try it once instead I went to the website and read the menues of the restaurants that I did not try before and call them through the phone after reading the menu
@Mohamed indeed ,the free shipping is great , do you know that Metro delivery is not free so if Amazon is using free shiping then it is great
that is ridiculous guys. Why I buy fast food from the net if I can just call the store and order it quicker by phone. At least I will have somebody to communicate with. Other Groceries is ok. Few questions guys. Do you have Amazon service in Egypt. That would be gret? Vagabondblogger, sound like you are not living in Egypt but in US, anyway. What do you mean by smoked ham? Mortadella or salami cause salami is made up of beef and it should be halal
@SR there are several types of Smoked Ham in Italy about Egypt well I believe you can order books from Amazon but you have to some account with Aramax ,it is like Febex , it is the delivery company responsible for delivering things from JC Penny , Britian and also Amazon
Samcan123: I find it interesting when people feel strong desire to adhere to religious requests or instructions about what to eat, drink and wear, at the same time little attentions are paid about lying, stealing, cheating (husband &wives), even killing ..I wonder.. !!!
Zeinbobia, Wow, can anyone in Egypt buy online from JC Penny? That is really impressing. However, I wonder what someone can buy online from JC Penny if he doesnt have the option of returning the stuff in case it didnt fit. The idea itself is great. What about stuff that are sunject to Egyptian custom. Do they charge you for the custom too? I guess availability of the credit cards in Egypt helped in this process. Qwaider, Oh man I missed 3am me7ammad elbawab. If you dream here in USA you cant find that dala3 and bahaweyya. even in the richest zones in Manhattan ( the richest part of the world) you cant have that. Yes, rich people apartments are secured by teem of bawwabeen ( uniformed security) who are 7x24 observing the main gate but dont ever think that one of them can wash your car or bring you foul and falafel. No luxury ( bahaweya) in the whole world like that you can enjoy in Egypt. EGYPT IS A GREAT POOR COUNTRY
sr: The special smoked ham I mentioned is a whole smoked ham, but we get it only during the holidays since it's quite expensive.
I live in Cairo, but spend the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) in the States to celebrate with family, now that we have a house back there. We have spent many holidays overseas, and have just started returning to the States recently.
@DR SR JC Penny got a special measurement system you can use it to get the correct size and no they do not charge the custom fees if you buy through the net ,I think
JC Penny is an expensive store here. I mean I buy the shirt for $60. If I were in Egypt I wont pay 300 LE for a shirt even if I can afford it. Simply because the Makwagi might burn it ( smile)

Nothing new, a bunch of companies have all tried and failed to do this. They just couldn't generate critical mass and went belly up
ReplyDeleteThe idea has been on the Internet for at least 8 years now.
