Ok this is the news of the day which the foreign minister denied and as usual if any minister denies anything in Egypt, it will be for big probability a true thing .
Some American Websites are saying that the National guards of the United States are going to guard the Egyptian - Israeli borders and that already there are 25 of them in Egypt in North Sinai currently and that more of them are coming to spread all over Sinai in the next weeks !!
Despite the denial of the Egyptian Foreign minister , yet I found that 95 soldiers from the Iowa National Guard's 109 medical battalion is going to be deployed to Egypt in February for one year !!!
So who is honest ?? The Americans or the foreign minister ??
It seems that the Americans listened to the Israeli complains after all and wanted to make sure that everything on borders will go as the Israelis want and as we are not that efficient they decided to send their National Guard to do the job !!
Why I ask how on earth and in heaven the Egyptian regime accepted this ??
Again we need honest and logic explanation from the Egyptian regime regarding the United States National Guard in Sinai.
I have nothing against them if they come among the international Peace Keeping force , they are mostly welcome
BUT if they come among the so-called "War on terrorism" in order to watch the borders for the Israelis' eyes then there are not welcomed because we can fight terrorism very well and it will be an insult to us to our army and to police .
Again I hope that this won't be another taboo our media refuses to talk about officially or unofficially and more important I hope that it will be discussed in the assembly .
P.S : This will be an insult to our army and our men if it is true

The US Army in general, both National Guard and Active Army troops have been in the Sinai for over 20 years now. As part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), which consist of 10+ countries. It was a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel to establish a force to monitor both Israeli and Egyptian military forces in the Sinai Region.
ReplyDeleteCountries such as the Australia, Canada, Colombia, Republic of the Fiji Islands, France, & others have also contributed to the MFO.
The MFO is not a fighting force, but a security force. A security force that only enforces the peace treaty alone. The whole war on terrorism is not the reason for American Forces or any other contingents presence. You can even look up the MFO if you want.
I know this, because I was in the Sinai myself for 18 months on mission there. But I will say this though, a lot of egyptian citizens that don't live in the area of our bases, don't even know we're there.
after a series of incidence few weeks ago, it is surprisingly predictable
ReplyDeletethey came just in time.....
و شر البلية ما يضحك
@Izzat , my dear sir I am sorry for this delay but may be because there is a post including a poll with a script anyhow I will seacrh for the problem and fix it , sorry again
ReplyDelete@Banger, I know about the MFO and I think I blogged about them in this blog when there was attack against them in Sinia from couple of years , I do not have anything against them , you are mostly welcome if you come according to the peace treaty and you were already there but for war on terrorim and the Israeli borders protection , not this is another thing , already if these troops come to Egypt for war on terrorism , there will be then a real terrorism in the area , already the locals are having enough from the Egyptian Police !!??
@loudlaughter , yes this is what we need to complete our series of unfortunate events of the week :)
Seriously aren't there enough Egyptian men in uniform that could do this job?
ReplyDeleteBut it's another way for the Isrealis to put their foot in the door of Sinai. They will never relent and alter the treaty to allow more Egyptian Army or Police or Security personnel to patrol the area.
And that Old Fart Hosni means nothing to the Israelis. As you wrote before, they don't respect him, so they and their American friends will do as they please. Sadly.
@anonymous , well this is the respond on Egypt's diplomatic anger and claws everywhere !!
ReplyDeleteI do not know till when we will continue giving up to them like this
Yeah I know what you mean about the locals and the whole Egyptian police part. We heard plenty about it, which a lot of people were glad to have us around, kinda keeping tabs. As for soldiers being sent to the Sinai for the war on terror, I don't know about that. It might be said in news reports and such, but they really don't know.
ReplyDeleteIf anything soldiers being sent to Egypt in general are there for peacekeeping operations dealing with the MFO. I know some national guards troops were sent to analyze the MFO troops security measures. Due to the attacks in the region.
I do know we have no troops actively participating in anti-terror operations in the Sinai region. All troops in the Sinai are upholding the peace treaty.
@banger , thanks so much for informing us with that , you know more , already again if they are here for MFO and Peace Keeping then they are mostly welcome .
ReplyDeleteAlready to be honest this news comes at very bad time in the American-Egyptian relations and the Foreign minister was not honest as he denied at first , this created suspecision for the Egyptians ,especially the independent opposition newspapers
anyhow I think in February when they arrive things will be much clearer
The troops you refer to that arrive in February, is the new rotation for the region. Every so often troops in the Sinai are rotated out to give them a break.
ReplyDeleteI've seen reports myself of people saying that they will specialize in anti-terror operations and anti-terror raids. Which is completely untrue.
These new soldiers are only there to relieve the ones in place. We have seen some tension between american-egyptian relations, but nothing that would cause anything major to happen.
Which is another why soldiers are rotated in. To lessen the stress and tension of being deployed for extended periods of time.
@Banger , if that is the case as a rotation forces then there is no problem , ahlan wa Sahlan , I think as you referred the misunderstanding came as a direct result of the tension between the Egyptian regime and the U.S Administration

ReplyDeleteI was there in the Sinai in 2005-2006 for MFO 48. While we were there guarding your country there were bombings in Sharm El Sheik and Dahab, and the Egyptian Government would let us get involved to help people out.
