Zeinab you have really been amusing me as a first class journalist but something puzzles me about your infatuation with president Sadat and his era. Let me quote you here,
ReplyDelete"Really his arm dealing business made me lose all the respect I can have for him, illegal business that causes the people death around the globe, and not to mention it is prohibited by Islam considering the money earned from this business Haram or sinful that has no bless, on the contrary it is cursed hell money that never brings happiness nor health"
Your were talking about Ashraf Marwan and his apparant arm deals with Iran. I hate to disappoint you here but did you know that president Sadat before he was assassinated sold about 2 billion dollars (not sure of the exact amount) worth of weapons to Iraq? This is by president Sadat's own admission in one of his speeches. I have another question for you. Do you think president Sadat was a better president or better person than president Nasser?
@Hazem , I think it is quite obvious why Sadat sold these weapons to Iraq , do not forget that the New regime then in Iran wanted to export its revolution to neighbor countries .
ReplyDeleteHere Hazem you comparing between a country that sells its weapons' production to another country not an arms dealer , who sells for the higher bidder
about your question , I can judge on the personality because I do not know them personally nor you
but in my opinion I think President Sadat before his last three years was better than Nasser with my all due respect to Nasser
@Zeinobia, Birds of a feather flock together. Both Sadat and Marwan were opportunists. According to what you are saying, Sadat was helping Iraq because Iran wanted to export its revolution to neighboring countries and Marwan was selling arms to Iran because he wanted to get rich. Considering that Sadat was ostracized by most arabs led by Iraq, its hard to believe that Sadat cared much for exporting the revolution to Iraq or did not know that Marwan was selling arms to Iran. I did not know that its ok for a country to kill muslims as long as it is getting arms from another country and not from an arm dealer.
ReplyDeleteNasser was a leader who inspired millions of Egyptians and Arabs. On the night of the revolution, he did not go to a movie theater and creat a fight like Sadat did to creat an alibi in case the revolution failed. He did not freak out when he got shot at during his 1954 speech and asked his people to stay. He was the only arab leader to resign his position after losing a war and taking the blame for the loss (I get tearful everytime I watch that speech on yuoutube). Finally, in his farewell funeral, Egyptian people swarmed into the streets of cairo, carrying his coffin, crying the man who made them feel proud of their heritage.
Zeinab when it comes to which personality is better, Sadat has no chance with all due respect to the good things he did during his presidency.
@Hazem , Marwan made the Iran deal after the death of Sadat
ReplyDeleteSecond I do not understand , if Nasser supported the Other Arabs and send weapons and even troops then it would be a great thing despite our troops can get killed just only to stand against the Saudi Royal thing and the Capitalistic monarchy movement what so ever but if Sadat sent only weapons to help Iraq against coming danger than he would be an opportunist.
About the Revolution night ,you forgot that Nasser chose Naguib to become the cover and the leading man in front of the public , if the coup failed , the first man to be hanged was Naguib
What Sadat did was deception my dear friend , already I think it was too wise of him , I mean same thing happened before the 1973 complete deception , or do you think it was an act of Coward.
Look Hazem judging from the history of Sadat pre-1952 I do not think that the word of Coward or opportunist can be correct to describe him ,this is one.
Two I do not know if you know that Aziz Al Masry ,the great Egyptian Military icon had chosen him to join the free officers
