From two years ago I had to go with my aunt to buy blood packets for my grand mother who was in the hospital. We went to the main blood bank in Agouza that follows the ministry health “It turns out that it did not follow Vacsera as I thought earlier”. I went there and I saw how people wait for hours to get blood and how it can be costly for some to get one single blood packet. A drop of blood is life for sure .
Now last week I was shocked to know that the main blood bank was closed on the 13 of January 2009 by the orders of the health ministry. The Ministry decided to close to the main blood bank in Egypt for three months !! Yes for three months !! According to Al Wafd newspaper there was sort for contamination in the bank discovered by a sudden visit of supervision committee.
The news is shocking for sure but it calmed me that the ministry took this decision still strangely according to Al Wafd weekly edition on last Thursday the blood bank was reopened after three days only !!??
It is worth to mention that there was no official explanation why the blood bank was closed suddenly and why it was reopened after 3 days up till now.
I do not know what to say. It is a scary ;thousands in Cairo alone depend on the main blood bank on a daily basis not to mention the other governorates. And if this was the situation in the main blood bank what about the other blood banks across the country !!?? Were their some patients who got contaminated blood !!?? many scary questions I know that anyone will think about if you read such news !!??
This should be discussed in the Parliament and the health committee in the parliament should investigate this matter as soon as possible not to mention that the health minister Hatem El-Gabali should address this matter to in the Parliament.
