I am subscribed to both Yahoo and Google Alerts and since yesterday I received alerts by Hosni Mubarak's statements about Mohamed ElBaradei and I would clear some thing here regarding the candidacy of ElBaradei.
Hosni Mubarak said that ElBaradei can run as a partisan candidate or as independent candidate in the presidential election in accordance with the current constitution , he did not say that he would run as freely as he wants.
I am saying this because I found several international websites saying that Mubarak says that ElBaradei can run for the office if he wants despite that he did not mean that, he meant that ElBaradei must play according to his sick limited rotten constitution.
For God sake Mubarak said ElBaradei is no hero !!
Zeinab, what makes Dr. El Baradei a hero? He wasn't the 1st Egyptian to be the head of an international organization and he won't be the last, or so I hope.
ReplyDeleteWhat else makes him a hero?
What defines a hero in general and what defines a national hero?
Ah, and we can't jump to interpret what people meant by their statements.
ReplyDeleteSo, he said Baradei can run according to the constitution. What else he was supposed to say? No one should expect him to say that he will change the constitution and that he would do whatever Dr. El Baradei is asking because, well, why should he? He is defending his ideology and he has the right to do.
We should never forget that he has the legitimacy. He is the legitimate president of Egypt. And Dr. El Baradei isn't a threat, and the moment anything becomes a threat he has the power by law to defend the constitution.
Everywhere in the world there are laws to defend the ruling system. Even in the USA. We are speaking regular law not even martial law. Under martial law that we have been under for years, things are even tighter.
So, the bad news is. If we are speaking real change we have to either play by the rules and find ways to get around them else be big enough to override them.
So, what's the plan after the whole fuss in the media, facebook groups and blogs? What's the real plan? Are the forces of change big enough to set their own rules, or they will just have to play by the current rules.
And always keep in mind, the greatest change that ever happened in history and killed the USSR came from inside the system.
Gorbachev said the magic word "Perestroika" just like Ali baba with "efta7 ya semsem"
And please don't take this as anti Baradei or pro Mubarak, because I am honestly neither pro this nor con that, I am more on the observing side till someone does something to win me.
It is just a try to look at things from a different angel.
What do you expect from an 82 years old who still dyes his hair black?
ReplyDelete"If you are shameless, you can do or say whatever you want"
What is wrong with an 82 years old guy who dyes his hair black? Is that against the law or against morality? Is that why people want him out? Because he dyes his hair? Come on people... grow up and talk about the important things, not hair color!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous, Its not against the law or against morality to color your hair but it certainly against common sense specially at this age and for a person in his status. Our president still thinks that dying his hair will make him look younger in the eyes of his people and the world. If you think that discussing the personal behavior of the president is not an important issue to discuss then you do have a serious problem and you deserve a president like him.
