More Than A Center

I will tackle again the so-called ground zero mosque controversy as it seems that this is not the end and the whole world seems discussing it, it is not a local matter in the United States
First of all I must hint to two issues :
  1. It is not actually ground zero mosque , it is four blocks away from ground zero.
  2. It is not a mosque , it is an Islamic center.
Second of all this is not a campaign against a center that is few blocks away from ground zero , this is a campaign against Muslims and Islam , you only have to read the banners of those angry tea parties  supporters and the right wing in the States , you only have to listen to Gingrich and Palin's ignorant rants to understand that this is an issue against a whole religion.Already I do not understand how Palin wants to be the president of U.S while forgetting that she should maintain and build good relations with Muslims around the world and in the United States in order to win their votes !! By the way I believe Palin jumped to the center's wagon to avoid all this media buzz about her daughter's drama ; just check the dates and you will understand what I mean.
Third of all Obama should not have entered this battle because he lost both sides. I understand that this has turned in to a battle between the democrats and the GOP but I hope that would not be on the expense of the Muslim community in the States. The GOP are using the 9/11 families and their angry feelings fueling it more and more for their own benefit.
From the huffingtonpost.com
Fourth the Cordoba initiative should not give up and move to another place because this is not a battle on a piece of land or a building , it is a battle about acceptance. By the way you can read more about Cordoba here.If we are going to speak about the history then I would like to remind those living in house of glass to stop throwing others with stones.

Fifth I am not an American but I am thinking how the Muslim American of non foreign origins , whose grandparents came from 200 years and built this country will feel now !!?? I bet they are feeling like aliens , I bet they are feeling rejected despite  that their own constitution recognizes them and their rights.
Sixth there are Muslims who were killed in the two towers and these Muslim Americans are being attacked on a daily basis in that hatred wave.Their families did not lose their beloved ones only but they are being prosecuted on daily basis for being Muslims.
Seventh I agree with Mr. Mustian despite he does not seem to me a political activist.
Jason Mustian's tweet about ground Zero mosque
Again Muslims do not need a center here or there to do their rituals but this is about acceptance. Today lower Manhattan tomorrow ,it will be another state !!
Olbermann spoke about the so-called ground mosque

  1. The mosque is being placed here as a show of Muslim power; it is no different from Egypt where they insist on building mosques immediately next to every church.

  2. Z,
You forgot to mention that the latest poll found that many in NY state believe the project is protected by the Constitution, even if they oppose the plan.
Nearly two-thirds of voters, 64 percent, say the developers have a constitutional right to build the mosque. Twenty-eight percent say they do not.
Majority of Americans believe that this is a 'sensitivity' issue and would not oppose building the mosque further away from ground zero.
Using 'Space Cadet' Palin, 'Half Brain' Gingrich (who announced the divorce of his first while she was in the hospital dying of caner) and 'Mr. Obama Crowd Pleaser' as examples does not tell the whole truth.
The Mayor of NY Mr. Bloomberg (a Jew)supports the project.
    The Canadian.

  3. It's two blocks from ground zero, not four blocks. And the plan is for it to contain a mosque. The property owners probably do have a right to build it, but it is unlikely to get built anytime soon.

  4. I do not feel like an alien. And I do not feel rejected. Disappointed, sure, but bombastic bigotry is as predictable a part of American life and media as the quintessential apple pie. But for the most part, while news-as-entertainment and politics-as-entertainment is busy whipping itself up into a fury, real life remains normal.

To be completely frank, most American Muslims (and most New Yorkers, Muslim or not) who I know personally support Park51 because we should, but are rather ambivalent about the project itself, and for the most part would like nothing more than for it to not have been brought up at all by either the opposition *or* the Cordoba Initiative. As one writer put it, American Muslims weren't asked by anyone but rather were effectively "cornered into taking a position." And I have to say I don't know a lot of us who are thrilled about that.

  5. I don't understand how does your comment about building mosques next to a church relate to this issue, and I suggest you watch the video especially the part where he talks about the "Cordoba".
I don't think having an Islamic Community Center is what people are protesting about, it is the fact that Media\Politicians fed into their minds that "Muslims = Terrorists".

  6. @Jason , it is not a mosque dear , having a place for prayers does not transform in to a Mosque , a mosque has a certain specifications
This is a center , there is a difference

  7. Z, I think you're right perhaps in the technical sense of Cordoba House-Park51 not planning to have a minaret or a loudspeaker for call-to-prayer five times a day. But as far as I am aware, the defense that it "isn't a mosque" has never been made in the American media. I just don't think that would fly. By the way, regarding the two-versus-four block distance from Ground Zero question, I read that the building was damaged on 9/11 by a hijacked plane's landing gear.

  10. All this waste of ppls time and efforts to object to the building of a house of worship?!! All these politicians and so called thinkers exploiting this issue to increase hatred among members of the American society and generally between Americans and Muslims?!!
Why isnt any one stating the facts that Muslims also were among the victims of 9/11 and if you do the body count for the consequences of 9/11, you can clearly see the Muslim body count has surpassed followers of other faiths, since the faith of the soul that used to be in one of these bodies and not loss of human life in general is how some see this!!

Until when we will hear Americans stating or alluding to how we as Muslims and how our religion should be held responsible for 9/11? You own governments and security entities were the ones who buffed up Bin Laden when he was needed to fight the Russians on your behalf, your own puppet turned against you, cost lives in MENA and elsewhere but only when the puppet dares to get back at his master did you realize how dangerous he is. Even afterwards, you didnt care to find the truth and preferred to turn to the call for war, to add to the list of countries bombed by the US and ppl killed bec of the greed of those running your country and the ignorance of the majority electing them.
@M. Landers: I dnt get how could you feel that its the fault of the Kordoba group to have cornered Muslims in such an issue and how you claim as Muslims you would have preferred not to be pushed into the issue!!! Who is responsible for turning a simple issue of building a Masjed into such a big deal? Its certainly not those behind the idea. And how could you feel at ease living in a country were your own house of worship was rejected around 9/11 ONLY BEC SME IDIOTS SILL THINK WE AS MUSLIMS ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR IT AND SO IT SHOULDNT BE THERE!!!
@ First Anon: WHAT MUSLIM POWER TO SHOW? In case you do not know, this is not the age of Muslim power. Go back and do some reading and you will realize when and what Muslim Power used to mean and how ppl like you who see us as a potential danger are having their golden hour.Yes, it shows Muslim power to stand up for what they believe as a good deed. There is a need for a masjed, there is an available property, there is a chance to have a community centre, this is all that matters, not that oh my its close to 9/11. Do you know how many ground zeros your own country have left around the World, including the Muslim world and yet no one woke up to say oh no, plz no churches there, reminds us of the Americans!!! As for the Masjed beside a Church, I love it that in Egypt for so many yrs places of worship could co-exist despite having a different call. Its not how you wrote its is a competition, its a true reflection of diverse and co-existing neighbors, something ppl like you in the West havent come close to accept nor comprehend.

  12. This blog looks very similar to Issandr El Amrani's The Arabist blog.
    Who's copying who?

  13. @Anonymous, The Arabist and Egyptian Chronicles are both wide format two-column blogs but I don't see much similarity besides that. Both recently blogged about Cordoba House, but that's a big story. What else is similar?

    @Z, You implemented dates!!! Yaaayyy!

  15. I know her and her opinion , I wrote about her with the controversy around her
Some non Muslims Americans say that she had to say so because her stupid constant will be next Monday "mostly liberals" and that she is another bimbo Miss USA that is not originally the best Muslims representative
Believe it or not I respect her opinion and I hope that this would her own conviction not a hopeless attempt to please all parties considering the fact that she is with Obama but wants the center to move to another place to please everybody.
If there is Rima , there is also Talat knows exactly the meaning of ground zero
