Qatar bought Harrods and it seems that its eye is now on Omar Effendi. There are rumors that Saudi Anwal is having negotiating with Qatar holding that wants to buy the famous department store that suffered after the privatization in a way worse than during nationalization.
The Egyptian government represented in the ministry of investment does not have a word in this deal as far as I understand.
The question now is : will Qatar holding be able to save Omar Effendi ??
I like Omar Effendi and have shopped at the store so many times from before and after privatization but one thing I dont like is the mentality of the workers there still thinking they are government workers. you will find them in one group chatting to each others while customers looking for someone to help them and that person happens to be busy with another customer and when you ask them for help, they will pointed you to the same guy instead of helping you! If the workers have the same working attitude and the management is not doing nothing to upgrade their services, no matter who took over the business, it will not survive!
