The city of Mansoura , the capital of Dakahlia govenorate in Nile Delta has joined the cities of Tanta and Port Said when it comes to unrest , real unrest.
Early Monday we woke up on clashes in Mansoura between protesters and Muslim brotherhood members at the Governorate HQ when the protesters blocked it with the main way starting some sort of sit in . We knew that Muslim brotherhood sent its followers to disperse that sit in from that Post published by MB’s RSSD network claiming that the MB members in Dakahlia went to aid “the citizens” to against those “thugs” blocking the way.
People also identified some MB members from TV clips and photos aired from Mansoura.
That video was spread like fire showing the MB members and supporters attacking the protesters including two ladies. This brought to the memory the infamous 5 December 2012 clashes.
By the afternoon the MB members withdrew and the police forces from CSF arrived to start even bigger clashes between Protesters and CSF. The CSF fired tear gases and birdshots madly. There are two badly injured citizens in the clashes. People are speaking about the use of live ammunition.
Things erupted badly when rumors spread that two babies suffocated from tear gases. I read that a CSF vehicle was torched.
Some protesters from activists in the governroate have been arrested.
Here is a photo gallery showing the clashes in the city.
The clashes have not stopped yet in Mansoura
Journalists should head there immediately.
There is something going on outside Cairo and it is spreading : Port Said , Tanta/Mahalla and now Mansoura.
Apparently the protesters are threatening the workers who don't want to join the protests and beating them up.
ReplyDeleteProtesters are causing havoc now in the port cities and most Egyptians are heartily sick to death of these damned protesters who are daily destroying production and economy.
I am with MB all the way I am afraid now. I never supported them before but it seems that they are the only ones that seem to be bothered about saving the economy so therefore they have all my support even though I never was a supporter of them before. Foreign businesses are suffering badly and closing now and eventually it seems the protesters will get their wish. No foreign investment, a collapsed economy, total destruction of civil life and civil war in the end.
Any sane person should be condemning these protests IF they loved Egypt and cared about it which obviously these road and factory blocking thugs don't. End result is more foreign businesses will be closing down and shifting operations elsewhere where there are no protests every day. Israel must be laughing it's head of at the stupidity of Egyptians and rubbing it's hands thinking when they can attack and take over Sinai again.
@(By the way I am not Ikhwan), you guys suck big time, you don't even innovate in your comments sheep. MB IS the cause of Egypt's economic collapse. MB is the cancer and inchallah will be obliterated soon.
DeleteNo one ever said freedom is cheap !
DeleteYou so funny, acting like the Muslim Brotherhood is a friend to foreign investment. I bet for your next trick, you'll claim the douchebags are good for tourism, too.
Deleteit is quite clearly no peacful political protest. These thugs represent a rejectionist element which are essentially opposed to democratic rights. The NSF epitomises them, a rag tag asembly of minority leftists, corrupt sleazy businessmen and their cronies and 'liberals' ideologically opposed to 'political islam'.
ReplyDeleteThe press often refers to the NSF as the largest opposition. However they have not dared seek peoples votes so no-one knows their strength. However I think it is quite clear that over recent months the main "opposition" blocs have emerged as the Salafist vote in first place, the Liberal islamists of the ilk of Aboul Fotouh and such like in second place and a broad liberal element of mixed political allegience but clearly opposed to the dirty politics of the NSF and its 'old guard' elements, in third place. The NSF represent nothing but the worst of Egypt.
So funny! Foreign investment under Islamic Law will never ever happen. I am impressed that every day more Egyptians are realizing how the MB is exploiting religion to achieve their own goals: staying in power and leading Egypt back to barbaric medieval times. I hope that the pressure on the economy will finally lead to the way forward, towards a free, tolerant and modern Egypt.
ReplyDeleteThe MB is daily destructing the economy by their lack of everything!!!! Lack of experience lack of measures lack of leadership. Instead we have a 2 hour interview by Morsi, yalakhwi..!! The people are out in the streets for a reason. To say they are all thugs is just plain ignorance. Egypt is not moving forward cause of MB, and people are tired of it.. I know I am :((
ReplyDeletehttp://www.egyptindependent.com/news/imf-delay-egypt-loses-other-funding-opportunities
ReplyDeletePay special attention to the first paragraph..! Enough said.. The government is halting Egypt's progress, nobody else really
Why should the IMF or anyone else lend Egypt money that Egypt will likely never be able to pay back? Why should anyone, including the US, give Egypt any money? What has Egypt ever done for outsiders besides abuse and mistreat them?
DeleteFill me in about the abuse that was used the last 60 years to outsiders?? Which outsiders exactly are you talking about? Europeans? Americans? Asians?
DeleteUS has supported Egypt for many years. Why should that suddenly have to stop? Or do you think there are zero interests in the biggest country of the middle east which has good relations with numerous western and non-western countries and needs help building herself up indeed??!
Sarah,
Delete"Fill me in about the abuse that was used the last 60 years to outsiders??"
I didn't say anything about 60 years, where is that coming from? I didn't put a number on it, at all, but I'd certainly count at least 30 years worth. But the real question I asked, which you did not answer, was "what has Egypt ever done for outsiders?". I think if Egyptians expect help from outsiders, they should have some answers to that question. Don't you? Because, I can't think of a single positive contribution Egypt has made to the so-called international community. Egypt doesn't even produce and valuable goods and services.
Which outsiders exactly are you talking about? Europeans? Americans? Asians?
How about we start with the people who are expected to help Egypt right now, politically and financially?
"US has supported Egypt for many years. Why should that suddenly have to stop?"
That was by treaty. And the treaty was signed with the previous government, which revolutionaries like Zeinobia overthrew. And I think we all know what the Muslim Brotherhood thinks of the Camp David accords. I don't know about you, but I'm familiar with what Zeinobia and most her fellow revolutionaries think of the Camp David accords, too. Absent that treaty, and I'd suggest the treaty is void, why should the US continue supporting Egypt? Why shouldn't America's relationship with Egypt revert to what it was before Sadat entered into that agreement with the United States?
"Or do you think there are zero interests in the biggest country of the middle east which has good relations with numerous western and non-western countries and needs help building herself up indeed??!"
Biggest country in the middle-east doesn't mean much. It's also the poorest country in the middle-east. And, it's not really that big.
But since you think the US has some vital national interests which are so important we should ignore all the misconduct Egyptians perpetrate against the US and against Americans, maybe you can explain to me what those are?
I'm sorry but the Egypt America relationship for many years now has proved to be a mutual beneficial one!! Geographically and historically seen the two countries will always need each other (economical, political and security relations, Israel-Palestine where both play an important role)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Egypt is a 3rd world country America isn't. That's a simple fact.
I still don't see how your abuse argument proves to be true especially since both countries face a new challenge now with Egypt having an Islamist government and a new direction towards foreign policy will be made. Egyptians have enough on their mind but to 'abuse Americans'. And there will always be a few idiots everywhere yes, no need for generalizing though.
And Egypt needs foreign funding. Point. Which will be beneficial for America and any other countries dealing with Egypt in the long term that's how foreign trade works really
Sarah, in what way has it been "mutually beneficial"? As far as I can tell, all Egypt did for the international community and the US, is keep the peace with Israel. I don't really understand why Egypt behaving in a way that's logically in it's own interests is worthy of such praise, let alone so much political and financial support. In the meantime, the US has been treated as an undeclared enemy of Egypt, by the Egyptian government and by the Egyptian people, for the whole thirty plus years the treaty was in effect. If Egyptians want war, they should have it. If Egyptians don't want war, then there's no reason for anyone to reward Egypt for doing something Egypt was going to do anyway.
DeleteI don't see the relevance of the 3rd world comment. The US has healthy relationships with many 3rd world countries. That's no explanation for why America's relationship with Egypt and with Egyptians is so dysfunctional.
And I'm totally NOT willing to write off the way Egyptians have been treating Americans and other foreign visitors as "a few idiots", nor am I buying that tired old line that it could happen anywhere. Maybe it could happen anywhere, but if something like the public gang-rape of Lara Logan in the middle of a jam-packed Tahrir Square happened anywhere else, and the President of the United States and his Secretary of State both publicly demanded justice, then justice would be done. Period. Anywhere else. Anywhere else, mountains would have been moved to find and punish those responsible. In Egypt? Nothing. Zip. Nada. Treated like it never happened. Screw that.
Egypt needs foreign aid? Lots of countries need foreign aid, and almost all of them are more worthy of it than Egypt is. Can you tell me more about what benefits the US gets from providing Egypt with financial, political and military support? Besides Egypt reluctantly keeping the peace while complaining about the US the whole time?
The US never does anything if there is nothing in it for them.. That's just true and I have nothing whatsoever against the US. So is there a reason, what has changed so much overnight, that they should stop aiding Egypt?? Military aid to Egypt for example creates many jobs in the US itself .. Trade relations as I said are mutually beneficial in the long term (Egypt's economy is crippled and Egypt cannot fix the problem all by herself)
ReplyDeleteI don't know in which box you put me, you don't know anything about me but you seem to do so as in other posts you refer to me as 'that Egyptian'!!
Egypt would be stupid to cut ties with the US.. Egypt cannot do it alone. she can try but she will fail well she is already failing. And if both the US and Egypt are wise enough to maintain good relations (regardless of the attitude towards US which is based on media because I believe so far the government has been ok in its dealings with the US it could have been much worse. Also there are too many Egyptians who never even travelled outside so let alone have an opinion about foreign relations) aid can be continued...
After all of these years suddenly Egypt is not worthy right?? Egypt deserves a chance.. Let them (especially the government but also the people which is a divided cause nowadays) show from now on whether they deserve it or not but don't shoot Egypt off now in a critical time! The US is not holy itself either!! So don't put Egypt in that bad of a daylight that she doesn't deserve help
Sarah,
DeleteThe US never does anything if there is nothing in it for them..
Ah, but who is "them"? Just because some bureaucrat or even a click of bureaucrats, or a cabal of elected officials, perceives that something is in their interests, doesn't mean it's in the interests of the country, does it? As an American, I'm appalled at Obama's stance towards Egypt, and I didn't like Romney's much better. If you're so sure there are vital US interests at stake in Egypt, then why can't you explain what those are? :)
That's just true and I have nothing whatsoever against the US.
It's not "just true". We've often had administrations make foolish decisions that harmed the country. And I, as an American, do sometimes have something against US Administrations that behave in a manner I feel is harmful to the country as a whole. As now, in my opinion.
So is there a reason, what has changed so much overnight, that they should stop aiding Egypt??
The most obvious is that the Muslim Brotherhood runs Egypt, and the Muslim Brotherhood considers the United States to be its enemy. They have stated that many times over the decades. How does it make sense for the US to treat an avowed enemy as if it is an ally?
Military aid to Egypt for example creates many jobs in the US itself .. Trade relations as I said are mutually beneficial in the long term
Egypt is not particularly large, and it's quite poor. I don't think we Americans would really notice it much if there was no trade between the US and Egypt, at all. As for the military aid, that's adding to our national debt and, while I'm not an economist, I'm not convinced increased profits for weapons manufacturers and a few jobs is a worthwhile trade-off, considering what a problem we have with deficit spending.
I don't know in which box you put me, you don't know anything about me but you seem to do so as in other posts you refer to me as 'that Egyptian'!!
I'm not trying to put you in a box, or label you either. Sorry if it feels that way :)
Egypt would be stupid to cut ties with the US.. Egypt cannot do it alone. she can try but she will fail well she is already failing.
And who says that's not what Egypt deserves?
Also there are too many Egyptians who never even travelled outside so let alone have an opinion about foreign relations) aid can be continued...
What about this blogger? Has she never traveled? Is she just ignorant? Is that why she has so much contempt and loathing for the United States?
After all of these years suddenly Egypt is not worthy right??
I didn't like the relationship between the US and Egypt even before the Muslim Brotherhood took over the country, but at least then the leadership was responsive to the US and attempted to not openly stab us in the back. It seems unconscionable that the US tries to pretend things are just the same, now. Especially after the events of last September, and I personally believe the Muslim Brotherhood was behind all that anti-US violence, not just in Egypt but all across the Arab world, and most especially in Benghazi, where it was a Muslim Brotherhood militia foolishly contracted by the US State Department to provide external security for the US diplomatic missions, which instead decided to stand down and not come to the aid of the Americans under attack. It's unforgivable, to me, that the Obama Administration is still trying to hide the truth about what happened last September. And why? To maintain this "good" relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Obama puts Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood ahead of Americans. It's disgusting.
Egypt deserves a chance...
Egypt is getting a chance. More of a chance than it deserves, in my opinion. We have foolish people running the US government, which is a very lucky thing for Egyptians.
Oh please.... Obama puts the Muslim brotherhood before Americans... That's just really dramatic...
ReplyDeleteWhether decisions are in the best interest of the country doesn't really matter.. decisions are usually made to just benefit the top or ruling powers (whether In US or Egypt) ...
Let's just agree to disagree... I just don't like how hypocrite it is to maintain a relationship for years and years (apparently it was of some benefit to the US otherwise the ties would have been cut already) ... And you don't just cut ties because the government has changed.... Is the MB currently still so hostile towards the US?? .. The MB is Egypt biggest problem indeed.. But no reason to cut ties just yet..
Sarah,
DeleteAnd you don't just cut ties because the government has changed...
The government didn't just "change". There was a revolution, and the previous regime, which was theoretically a US ally, was toppled. And replaced by a new regime that is a self-declared enemy of the United States. How can you even suggest that it would be NORMAL under those circumstances to continue the past relations as if there was no difference?
I didn't call anyone ignorant. You did. You said many Egyptians have the attitudes and opinions about the US that they do because they are ignorant. Zeinobia (not you) seems to have those same attitudes and opinions, so I asked if that was her malfunction as well.
Yes. Lets agree to disagree. We don't seem to be making any progress, anyway :)
Btw, who are you referring to when you say 'this ignorant blogger': me or Zeinobia?
ReplyDeleteYou have to keep your enemies close right :))
