I love that building and its details despite the disgusting shops below #downtowncairo #Cairo #Blogger #Citizenjournalism June 01, 2015 at 12:49PM via Instagram http://ift.tt/1SQ1pEL
That's the Abdel Hamid Al Shawarby Pasha building at 59 Ramses Street, designed by the architect Habib Ayrout in 1925. Beautiful. The balconies on the top floor are a nice touch. Sadly, such overtly decorative architecture is out of style, and unlikely ever to come back in. Professional architects look down their noses at it, considering it unoriginal, and regarding those of us who like it as unsophisticated peasants.
