Coronavirus on the Nile: 24 months of Covid-19 in Egypt in graph

Again it is time for one of those monthly Covid-19 posts in Egyptian Chronicles and I hope that I will not have to do this inshallah soon as the pandemic ends worldwide.

This time it is a quick look into official Covid-19 numbers in Egypt after 24 months since its arrival to the country in February 2020.

The usual disclaimer: According to Minister of Health Hala Zayed in January 2021, the official numbers of cases represent between 10%-15% of the real number of cases worldwide Egypt included.

Those official numbers represent the patients who enter coronavirus isolation public hospitals in the country according to official statements, not the cases in private hospitals or those who receive treatment at home.

Here is the graph, it is interactive so you can click on it and click on the tabs to compare between 2020, 2021 and 2022.

From December 2021 to January 2022 in Egypt

The total numbers of official registered cases jumped from December “26,997 cases” to January “40,336 cases” by 49% .

Meanwhile the total numbers of officially registered fatalities went down from  December “1,278 cases” to December “ 883 cases” by 30.9%.

Yet the total number of officially registered recoveries went up from December “23,027 cases” to January “37,602” by 63%

You can see January's Coronavirus numbers in details here.

Compared to January 2021 in Egypt

The total numbers of official registered cases went up in January 2022 “40,336 cases” compared to January 2021 “27,895 cases” by 44.6% .

We were in the peak of a new wave in January 2021 if I remember correctly but it is unlike nowadays.

Already January 2021 recorded officially the highest number of coronavirus infection cases in Egypt since the pandemic’s arrival in February 2020 unfortunately.

The total number of official fatalities cases declined in January 2022 “883 cases” compared to January 2021 “ 1,685 cases” by 48 %.

Omicron is much lighter than Delta variant as it seems.

The total number of official recoveries cases increased in January 2022 “37,602 cases” compared to January 2021 “17,531 cases” by 114% !!!!

Vaccination Progress

Despite the Ministry of Health is sharing openly the status of coronavirus vaccine updates since late January , we do not have the accurate numbers of December 2021.

Yet I used the numbers acting Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar shared in late December 2021 and compared with the numbers we have in January 2022.

According to my estimations , the total number of doses administrated January are 8,444,316 including first , second and third booster doses.

Egypt administrated 64,044,316 doses including 37,285,894 first doses , 26,138,418 second doses and 620,004 booster doses by 31 January 2022 according to the Health ministry.

Starting February inshallah , we are going to have our accurate details.

In the end, you can follow Egyptian Chronicles’ Live coverage for February for all things Coronavirus in Egypt and the Arab world throughout this month.

Stay well, stay safe and get vaccinated.
