Down with the Facebook

The Facebook now is the official enemy of state. The blogs are no longer the danger on the State but it is the Facebook.

Last week most if not all the official publications in the Arab Republic of Egypt opened their fire on the Facebook as a danger on the national security , danger on our identity and danger on our morals sending several indirect messages like calling for a ban and scaring the average Egyptian Joe from using it. Al Ahram daily weekly edition on Friday the 2nd of May 2008 published a whole page trashing "The Facebook" in the most worse week using big language against those who use it from youth ; ironically it is not only youth who are using it !!

Well of course it is too late because Facebook is the new black now in the Egyptian society , I think I spoke about this before.

The regime was surprised to find that the Facebook was much more dangerous from its point of view than blogs

The last 6 April strike was organized and known to the public through the Facebook , thousands knew about him in a way I think blogs could not have done  ,due to normal fact , those who enter the facebook from Egyptians are more than those who read ,follow and interact with blogs and bloggers.

What makes the Egyptian regime mad is the fact that most of the people in Facebook who approved and supported the 6 April strike and the upcoming strike on the  4th of May are from the non-activist normal Egyptian average Joe who avoid involving in politics from near or far.

This is what scares the regime these people not the activists because in the end of the day those average Egyptians are the majority whose anger can be very destructive to the regime, whose anger can down a regime more powerful than this.

What is interesting is that the old generations that currently heading the regime and interior ministry do not understand the Facebook and its mechanism just like blogging at first. Seriously I read the reports and listen to their representatives on TV and I feel that there is a complete ignorance.

Many people now believe that the regime will limit the Internet access and censor it just like from two years after the rise of Internet blogs ,well it did not happen then and it won't happen now , because censoring the Internet will have back effect on the so called e-government that wants to make the smart village the silicon valley of the Middle East, also if they block facebook, twitter, blogger.com and Youtube , users like me will go to other Websites and platform

"God Bless WEB 2.0"

P.S : Who is Miss Abeer Soliman , the so-called Star of the Facebook that appeared in Al-Ahram ??

The Arabs in Time 100

Ok folks it is our annual date with the Time 100 list , the most 107_t100landing influential people in the year 2008 .

This year there is no Egyptian in the list but there are Arabs .

Here are the Arabs who made it this year: "arranged respectively"

1- Muqtada Al-Sadr in rank No.13 : Whether you like him or not , he is giving the Americans hard time in Iraq "The profile is written by General Ricardo Sanchez"

2-Sheikh Mohammed Al-Maktoum in rank no.30 : To tell the truth ,I do not like this man , I do not know why , yes Dubai is great and so on but after several incidents like the French boy and also a similar Case of an Egyptian lady "The profile is written by Scott Macleod, Egypt and Middle East correspondent of Time Magazine"

3- Madeeha Hasan Odhaib in rank no.32 : I have never heard about this astonishing Iraqi woman , I think what she had done shows that there is still hope in Iraq "The profile is written by Queen Rania of Jordan"

4- Ali Al Naimi in rank no.80 : The minister Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia is not an easy position especially during this time in this world "The profile is written by Lynn Westfall ,Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of External Affairs of  Tesoro Corporation"

5- Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal in rank no.89 : One of the richest man in the world and the richest man in the Arab world ,I think he is not used to be ranked as low as this . "The Profile is written by Al Jazeera international TV host Riz Khan"

6- Mo Ibrahim in rank no.96 : The African who is dreaming of better Africa , his Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership was the talk of town last year especially our President did not take it despite what is said about his wise leadership. "The profile is written by William Easterly , an economist at NY university"

That's folks no more Arabs

Still the list contains interesting names and ranks from the Dalai Lama to Bragelina to Miley Cryus

By the Way Khaled Hosseini, the author of the best selling The Kite Runner is in rank no.66 , the one who wrote his profile is the current First lady Laura Bush !! I do not know why , may be because she thinks that her hubby liberated Afghanistan !!

Follow Up : The 4th of May strike

Ok ladies and gentlemen,

It is only 2 days from the anticipated event in the middle east : The strike of the Egyptian people on the birthday of their President.

As you know the strike of the 4th of May crossed the borders to evolve from national in to regional strike as there are Jordanians who are calling for a Strike on the 4th of May and the Lebanese who are calling for  a Strike on the 6th of May.

Well now there are other Lebanese workers groups calling for n13378357762_7876 a protest on the 4th of May 2008 in solidarity with the Egyptian people in front of our Egyptian embassy in Beirut 1 PM BLT till 4PM. Here is the event page in the Facebook.

Oh baby let's go loud and loud , a regional strike ,wow

By the way I think the Egyptian communities abroad will do something similar from protests in front of our embassies and consulates around the Globe. I think our embassies used to this ,especially the one in South Korea .

On the other hand the indirect official media , that's newspapers and channels which are not owned by the regime still speak on behalf of it trashed the strike

Also president Mubarak called for 30% increase in the salaries of the Public sector to meet the rise in food prices , I am sorry but he is not that good in math because the food prices increased for 120% !!

The official parties that are going to strike on Sunday up till this moment are :

  • El-Gad "Ayman Nour front"
  • El-Karma
  • The democratic front

This is of course beside Kafya , MB  and the Wast party

Mubarak's life in a Radio Show

This is totally new and unique , another level of hypocrisy.

The national radio is going to represent in this weekend a Radio show about Mubarak's life in the occasion of his birthday on the next 4th of May "it will be on hell of birthday for sure".

For the first time an actor will portray the current president of Egypt and this actor is Nour EL-Sherif , I do not know who will have the honour to portray the first lady or Alaa Mubarak but I know that Gamal Mubarak will be portray by famous TV actor Ahmed Abd El-Aziz ; quite interesting is n't it ??

Nour El-Sherif

Ahmed Abd El-Aziz

It is strange because the man is still alive and they began to make Radio Shows about him , you know it could be a bad omen too !!!!

I do not know what they are going to say in this biography !!??

Update :

If you are interested Marvet Amin is going to lend her voice to the first lady's role and Tarek Dousky will be Alaa Mubarak . Marvet protrayed former First lady Jihan El-Sadat in the film "The days of Sadat"

At the gun point

I can't believe that we reached to this level that a police officer sexually assaulted a woman using his gun. Already I am surprised that this case did not make the headlines in the newspapers despite its sensitivity.

I am happy that the police officer took 25 years in jail still I am mad that it won't be implemented because he is not found till now , it is an absentia rule :(

The disadvantage of absentia rule on a serious criminal charge (rather than a misdemeanour) is that if the criminal is located and arrested this court sentence will be cancelled and the case will be re-tried !!

The police should treat this case not as the case of a policeman , but as rapist who should be arrest immediately , they should search for him to become the real administrative tool that obey the law and rules of the judicial system.

They should arrest him because he is the real danger on police reputation , they should arrest him because he represented all that against what the real police force represents from law , protection and help to the people.

They should arrest him because he could do the same thing to any Egyptian girl , he could it even do to one the other officer's daughter or wife; I do not know what the interior ministry  would think about that !!??

When I read it ,I felt so scared because it is not about a Sudanese refugee but it can happen to any lady alone. I could be in her place ,heaven forbids this is so scary .

I feel so angry for this woman but I am glad that the court reached to such fair judgment

By the way this is the highest penalty a police officer takes in the last two years for an assault crime on a citizen.
