After 12 years Khaled Said’s family receives a compensation in case you do not know

The news came on 30 December 2021 and it was like a true blast of the past.

A Cairo Court ordered that the family of Khaled Said to be compensated with one million pounds for his murder by two low-ranking policemen in June 2010.

Yes, after 12 years his family is compensated by one million Egyptian pounds for his murder that was a turning point for Egypt in decades.

Khaled Said and family

his sister Zahra (Zahra Said)

The trial was filed by the Egyptian Center for Economic and social rights in 2018 on behalf of Khaled Said family represented by his mother late Mrs Laila Marzouk.

The family is now represented by Khaled Said’s siblings Ahmed and Zahra Said.

Zahra Said is currently living in the United States.

Originally the family demanded 2 million pounds but the court ordered to be compensated with one million.

A blast from the past that came from nowhere reminding us with this short history that seems too far now !!

I noticed that there were some websites that shared the news , decided to publish it without the photo of Khaled Said. I doubt that the news was covered by news late night talk shows.

Sadly enough I began to see some young people from younger generations asking online Who Said was and the answers were quite shocking.

Someone answered and said that Said was a police officer who was killed by those two policemen. “Do not even ask how or why”

Yet other young people began to search for the information and know what really happened to Khaled Said.

For those who don’t know , Khaled Said was a young man from Alexandria who was beaten till death by two low-ranking policemen in June 2010 because he had video clips incriminating them.

His death ignited a whole movement online that reached its peak with a simple protest on 25 January 2011 that originally demanded the dismissal of the Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and the reform of the interior Ministry , the rest is history.

Is this the end of the Khaled Said saga ? I do not know. But it is another chapter in his story, a middle class young Alexandrian that turned Egypt's upside down with his death.

His Facebook page , which was a true moderate voice in crazy radical violent Egypt was closed by its famous co-admin Wael Ghonim who is battling a huge battle I real wish he comes from a victorious.

I decided to share this news days before the 11th anniversary of the 25 January Revolution.

It seems like yesterday and yet it seems centuries away not a decade away.

It is not late. It is never the late

It is that time in January and its ghosts.
