Coronavirus on the Nile : Masks are mandatory now in Egypt "Live Updated"

On Saturday, Egypt started imposing face masks mandatory in public. Those who will violate the orders will pay hefty fines up to authorities.

Since early reports, I read news reports and testimonies of people in the streets saying the authorities are taking things seriously so far on the first day in Cairo. Even microbuses drivers are asking the passengers to wear masks.

On Saturdays, Egypt is back to its 8 PM to 5 AM partial curfew.

All the businesses are back to work including shops and malls within the working hours.

On the other hand, coffee shops, sports clubs and gyms are closed.

It is worth to mention in the past two days, Egypt witnessed a jump in the daily number of newly discovered cases of Coronavirus as well as in its fatalities.

This jump happened due to the expansion in the number of hospitals in the country designated to screen coronavirus patients earlier last week.

According to Presidential Health adviser and former health minister Dr Awad Tag El-Din, Egypt will reach the peak of Coronavirus within two weeks.

I feel that we are going to pay the price of underestimating Coronavirus in the past month as people

Coronavirus on the Nile : Eid Week Edition “Live Update”

An empty street on the first day of Eid in Cairo Downtown
By Mohamed El-Raai.
It is Eid week in Egypt and the Muslim Countries in Coronavirus times.

The Eid comes in a very critical time as the Coronavirus infection begins to spread at a high rate daily after loosening the partial Curfew during the whole month of Ramadan.
The government is going to impose a more strict and longer partial curfew from 5 PM to 6 AM nationwide.

All beaches, public gardens, restaurants ...etc are closed during the upcoming 5 days. The government hopes to reduce the number of infections in the country because it hopes to open up the country in June.
We will see if we are in the peak or we have not reached it yet to open up after this week.

Coronavirus on the Nile : Live Update for another week under #COVID19 pandemic in Egypt

It is a new week under the
We crossed the 11,000 Coronavirus Cases in Egypt in the last week.
The Ministry of health presented a protocol for coexistence with the virus in Egypt on Thursday but it was removed from the Health Ministry Facebook page after the increase in number of Coronavirus patients in the past 48 hours.

Egypt’s Medical syndicate is begging the government for a completely lockdown and real curfew for two weeks at least especially after the spread of Coronavirus among medical care teams in the country.

Already a complete lockdown is part of the government’s plan to face Coronavirus specifically in stage three if there is a massive outbreak. It is not completely off the table,

We are in the last ten days of Ramadan and people are back for Eid shopping and the hotels will operate with 25% of its power in Eid and it Will be like a feast for Coronavirus sadly.

Coronavirus on the Nile : Over 8000 COVID-19 patients in Egypt “Live Updated”

A new week has started in Egypt with a rapid and alarming increase in Coronavirus patients in the country.
In two days, the total tally jumped from over 7000 cases to over 8000 cases.
In one week, we jumped from 300 infected cases per day to 400 cases per day and it seems that it won’t take to get the 500 cases per day.

Social distancing policies are not respected anymore.
The partial curfew is not respected anymore and the government seems to soften it at least in the capital.

I know it is the Holy month of Ramadan, the month of socializing and meeting with friends and families over breakfast or Suhor but this is too much.

It is frustrating and scary.

The government seems to be going into the direction of opening the country more and more despite the fact that we have not reached the peak as other countries in Europe that began to loosen it lockdown gradually.

It is a two-way street  I believe. The government and the public are responsible for curbing together the virus because personally, I think the human cost is more devastating than the economic cost. The economy can be revived, can be fixed but dead people can’t return to be life.

The photo is from the amazing report in Masrawy about the Abassiya Fever Hospital during Coronavirus crisis, the photos are by amazing Roger Anis.

Ramadan Arabian Nights 2020 : Tale of King Magedwon “ quintuple bill ” Ep.8,Ep.9, Ep.10 ,Ep.11 and Ep.12

Good evening,
Here we are back again with not only one night but rather four episodes of our Radio Arabian nights this year.
I did not publish any episode in the past three nights to mourn the Egyptian officers and soldiers who passed away due to the terrorist attack that took place on Thursday in North Sinai governorate’s city of Beir El-Abd.

It is the least I can do especially once again the Egyptian TV channels did not show any sign of mourning except showing that black ribbon on the side of the screen but the show went on.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time it has happened during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
I pray that it won’t happen again. May Allah bless their souls and the innocent souls that died in that ongoing war in North Sinai.

Anyhow once again we will escape from reality to fiction and imagination.
We will continue tonight our tale for this year, the tale of King Magedwon.
First of all, You can refresh your mind with what happened last night here.

Second, I would like to hint out that part of episode 8 of our tale is not complete. Yes, nearly half of the episode recording is not available online but fear not because we will know what happened in that lost part thanks to the amazing Scheherazade’s “Heard in the last episode” introduction in episode 9.

Episode 8 or the High Judge and Shamdwon

Now without further ado listen to the 740th episode in the Egyptian State’s One Thousand and One Nights or the eighth night in our tale for the year 2020, the tale of King Magedwon after the break.

Coronavirus on the Nile : Over 5800 COVID-19 patients in Egypt in a new week with a new level of challenge “Live Updated”

It is a new week under the Coronavirus in Egypt.
It is the second week of Ramadan and we are entering it after breaking, unfortunately, a record in the daily number of Coronavirus infections registered officially nationwide.

In one week we jumped from 4534 total number of patients on 26 April 2020 to 5895 on 1 May 2020. The number speaks about something to worry about in a country like Egypt.
Egypt’s health minister said 34 fever and chest hospitals are being prepared nationwide to receive Coronavirus patients for treatment.
An Egyptian woman wearing a mask in Islamic Cairo

There is also news that starting this week, the mild Coronavirus patients will be treated at home instead of hostels or hospitals.
It was reportedly announced on Egyptian State TV but I have not seen an official statement issued by the health ministry about.

The ministry denied the news and described the report as catastrophic and dangerous.

Again it will be a critical week if the number of people infected by Coronavirus increases rapidly like that.

Personally, I believe we need completely lockdown and curfew to slow down the rate.
Unfortunately, it seems that we are going in the other direction.

Kodak Agfa presents : Ramadan lanterns 2020 in time of Coronavirus

Ramadan Kareem 🏮

This is my annual Kodak Agfa post dedicated to the beautiful Ramadan Lanterns of Egypt.
This is the Coronavirus year and it affected the Lanterns market and Lanterns workshops badly.

This year the famous Sayida Zeinab’s Ramadan Makeshift is not held at El-Sadd street and it is a big blow to the vendors from all over Egypt participating in Cairo’s biggest seasonal informal market.

Egyptian Handmade Ramadan Lanterns for sale in Cairo
Ramadan lanterns at El-Sadd street of El-Sayida Zeinab
Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country, the Municipality refused to grant the vendors permission to hold the market. The government already issued decisions to suspend informal markets in Egypt to Curb the spread of Coronavirus.

Already it closed down Al-Sayida Zeinab Mosque and shrine in front of visitors and suspend her Moulid in Mid-March.

Egypt's El-Sayida Zeinab Mosque
El-Sayida Zeinab Mosque is completely closed down since Mid March

I went there from three weeks ago in the morning as during then Egypt had a curfew from 7 PM to 6 AM. The Sadd street did not host the makeshift market but the Lanterns vendors held small, fragmented makeshift stands throughout the street
